David's Story
Life
After Graduation I went through Basic training at Ft. Bliss, Texas. I was assigned to Ft. Belvoir, VA, the Army's Engineering training center for Cartographic draftman training(Map maker)and Process cameramen, all part of the Army's topography unit. My overseas assignment took me to Heidelberg, Germany, where I was assigned to a specialized photolab as a photographer and photo specialist.
I attended Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Southwest Missouri State College in Springfied, MO and Columbia College where I received an AA in General Business and a BS in Business Administration. In 1973, I started working for the General Council of the Assemblies of God, the International Headquarters for the Assembilies of God churches and missionaries worldwide. I have worked in the Carpenter shop, Office Supply manager, Purchasing department, Micrographics Center Department head. In 1997, I was asked to step into a position that was vacated suddenly, in the Information Technologies Division, that handles, PC's, Laptops, Printers and Copiers, and all of the related components and supplies. I support 25 service technicians that are involved in the servicing and repair of all of the above equipment and the organizations in-house computer network.
Recently, I became the Office Services Inventory Support Coordinator for the Division that I work in. I will have completed 37 years employed by the General Council of the Assemblies of God during February 2010. My current position is IT Administrative Support Inventory Coordinator.
On March 5, 2010, I took an early retirement package, so I am now retired. I will be focusing on my hobbies alot now. Astronomy & Astrophotography , fishing, woodworking, flying, (I have had a private license for a long time), Model Rocketry and friends.
In June of 1973, I married Carol Joyce
McHaffie, who worked in the Radio Department of General Council. We have been married for 42 years, this June 29th, 2015 and have two daughters, Michelle, who is 37. Michelle is a foster mo...Expand for more
m to a 2 year old boy, that she has been taking care since his birth. LaDonna, who is 35 and has been married 12 years now. We have two grandsons,a 8 year old and a 6 old. .
My interest are: the outdoors, I have a passion for fishing since we are surrounded by 5 major lakes within an hour and half drive. I am a wood worker, I have built furniture for our home, and numerous other projects, some for missionaries overseas. I also build wooden toys and a toddler rocker that can be disassembled and stored until it is needed again. My most requested toy has been the name train that I build and sell.
My astronomy interest are public outreaches, deep space objects, Nebulas, galaxies, double stars ,sun and I have and interest in the field of astrophotography. I have been recognized by the Astronomical League for my Lunar Observations over the last two and a half years and for the 72.5 of hours that I have spent at public outreaches letting the public look at different objects that are visible through my 12 inch telescope, with other members of our Astronomy Club.
My third hobby is model rocketry. I have built 12 rockets and have two in the process of being built as I have time.
A forth hobby that I am just getting into is Beekeeping. I will be building all of my hive components. I plan on having eight deep supers, ( for the brood of bees and queen honey bee and 8 medium supers for honey production. I will start each hive with a queen and 3 lbs of honey bees. Three pounds of bees equate to 24,000 bees per hive. 8,000 bees per pound. In addition, during the Summer months the queen lays 1,500 eggs a day and the eggs become adult bees in 21 days. So I will be working with a lot of bees. I have had my bees since April 2015 and now in July they are producing honey. I plan on adding two move hives of bees in during April of 2016 by doing what is called a split. I will move several frames of bees, pollen and honey to a new hive from the two original hives and let the bees create a new queen bee for each hive.
