David's Story
Life
Graduated 1950, Oakkboro High, worked one year for Cannon Mills, Kannapolis NC, entered Air Force Jul 51 and served for 32 years, after a 5 month rest, went to work for the US Navy in the Chief, Naval Operations Office, field location at Mare Island Naval Ship Yard until it closed. Transferred to Oakland NSD for about a year and transferred to Bangor, Wash. as an inspector with Naval Operations and Intelligence. Retired after 16 yrs with the Navy and setteled in Vacaville,Ca with my family of two adopted daughters and wife.
Went into volunteer work for the Air Force at David Grant Hosp. Travis AFB, Ca, and as Director for a "Ride with Pride"
organization which provided free transportation for seniors 55 and over in Vacaville Ca. After three years, turned the mantle over to my replacement and just do volunteer work at DGMC which services all military within 200 miles of Travis. inging as a tenor in church. From 1985 until 1992, sang with a Gospel Quartet. We provided music to any church within a 50 mile area, free of charge but were funded by love offerings the churches voluntered which took care of gas and meals. I still sing in church choir as a tenor and will until the Lord calls me home or my voice wears out, which ever comes first! I have five children from my first marriage, who are scattered in Pa, Ariz, Fla and Ca.
School
Graduated from Oakboro High, N.C., and attended Phoenix Jr. college, and ASU, and Black Hills College, South Dakota during my off duty time with the Air Force. Amassing enough for an associate degree in Business Administration, and minored in Law enforcement. While in the Air Force, I attended the NCO Academy, and Senior NCO Academy, graduating from both as Honor Student, and Close Order Drill Award. Retired in 1983 from the USAF and 1999 from Naval Civil Service. Now I do volunteer work at the Air Force Hospital at Travis AFB, Ca.
