David's Story
I partied in Coos Bay for four years after graduation, what a waste of time... Then I joined the USAF and stayed in for 13 years, 8 months. I worked on the SR-71 Blackbird and U-2 Dragon Lady spy planes and the KC-135Q tanker. I worked on the navigation, instruments, autopilot and radio systems. I went to Saudi Arabia twice for Desert Shield/Desert Storm in 1991. My first wife ran away with another man, leaving Sheena Mae, our daughter with me.
Then I met Dottie Flagor December 1st, 1995. She brought me a step-son, Adam Flagor. We married March 9, 1996. I got out of the USAF February 29, 1997 after my son Joshua Slade Elwood Mitchell was born. We moved to Penn Valley, California and I had landed a job with Data Control Corporation in Grass Valley, CA. Dottie and I had another son, David LeRoy Porter on Valentines Day, 2000. I remember Dot being pregnant when we attended the 20th reunion. After a beautiful marriage of only 8-1/2 years my Dot passed away from a pulmonary embolism. I still haven't recovered from her loss, even after 5 years have passed.
I met a widow, Christi Gallup, in August after Dot passed, she had recently lost her husband. We dated and were married June 25, 2005. I moved to Washington after landing my current job in January, 2005. Christi has 6 children from previous marriages/relationships. Let me tell you, it has not be...Expand for more
en easy with older step-children, trying to blend a family. At this point, I seriously don't think the blend will happen. We'll just be two separate families, but maybe one day we'll all look back at the hardships and reflect on the time together, and things will be better.
I now have a 2007 Honda Shadow VT1100C Spirit motorcycle that allows me to get out and get the wind in my face. I love the sense of freedom riding the motorcycle gives me, the escape.
I also ride with the Patriot Guard Riders. We attend funerals at family request, provide flag lines, and motorcycle escort for fallen soldiers, firemen and policemen. We also do welcome homes and send-offs for our service men and women to show them we appreciate them and respect them. I just joined the American Legion and will hook up with the American Legion Riders here... Nice bunch of folks, those biking veterans.
We bought a 3,684 sq ft two story here in Pasco... Had 11 people to house and it was like a 1/4 the cost of a like house in California, $265,000 with the fancy options we had installed. Mortgage is a pain, but it's roomy, anyway. I really enjoy painting the interior w/ my lovely bride. She's my interior decorator. Painted the kitchen area a "faded rose" pink. Living room and entry is a "cowslip yellow" and our furniture is all that "Shabby Chic". Gives it a warm lived-in feel.
