David's Story
Transferred into Beaver River High School Sep '62 from Chippewa Secondary School, North Bay, Ont (Sep '60 to Jun '62). Joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in Sep '64 after Gr XII graduation.. Served the 5 years I signed on for and then went into civilian life. After RCAF service served in the Army Reserve (Royal Canadian Electrical Mechanical Engineers) as Administration Officer (AdmO) - 39 Tech Squadron RCEME, Windsor, ON (1972-1973); and as Officer Commanding (O/C) - Maintenance & Recovery Company, 28 Service Battalion, Ottawa, ON (1973-1976).
Retired (2010) from a 46-year career (RCAF, Leigh Instruments, Spar Aerospace, Guildline Instruments, Lockheed Martin, Northrop-Grumman) as an aerospace systems engineer and businessman. My main area of interest was in the design, construction and fitment of aircraft-borne electronic and electro-mechanical equipment. member of Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS), American Helicopter Society (AHS), and Canadian Aeronautical and Space Institute (CASI) during working life.
Married twice and divorced once. Three sons by first marriage, and acquired a daughter by second. Now enjoying second retirement with second wife Heather (40 years together August 2025!) having sold our renovated 78-acre Ottawa Valley farm in July 2024 and moved into town (Almonte).
Member (Drum Major) of MacEoin-Ramsay Pipe Band and 78th Fraser Highlanders Fort Glengarry Garrison Pipes & Drums 1990-2006. Active in the Anglican church where I sing (baritone) in the choir, and serve as a Lay Reader and Music Director. Recently retired from 12 years as a certified seniors phys-ed instructor-leader (volunteer) at the North Lanark Community Health Centre..
Other interests include wine making (built a good sized wine cellar under my kitchen) and vintage British and Italian cars and motorcycles (a life-long interest, although what was "leading edge" in my teens is now vintage!).
