David's Story
Life
After a year at Olympic College, I joined the Army in 1973 and went to Germany for 3 years. When I got out I went back to OC, met and married Karen Burroughs... Our first daughter was born 6 months before we married... our second was born 9 months after we married... They're way to close together... And they're grown and out of the house now. Karen and I were divorced on 4 AUG 04, a month before what would have been our 25th anniversary. She died on 22 SEP 04 of Renal Failure, after a short hospitalization...... No one knew until then how serious her condition was...
I had joined the Washington Army National Guard as a reservist in 1981, and started working full time for the National Guard in 1986. In 2003 the unit I was working with got mobilized and deployed to Iraq. I had my own series of comedies and tragedies, and joined the unit in Iraq in OCT 2004. We all came home in MAR 2005. in JAN 06 after nearly 24 years active duty and over 30 years of military service. Now it's time to spoil the grandkids.
I worked 4 winters at Stevens Pass, and those summers I lived a retired life. Some sailing, hiking, fishing, motorcycle riding, etc. Then I decided to go back and finish the 2 year degree I started .... too long ago. Go into trouble with the math. I can work through the functions, but have trouble remembering the formulas. On line doing VA related research I discovered that they (the VA) supported attendance at the NW School of Wooden Boatbuilding. I registered for the math and applied to the Boat School. Boat School called before the college did. Now I'm a graduate of the Boat School, and looking at building wood boats for recreation. More my recreation than anything else. I have a partner, Jan, who joins me in all of that when she's not teaching. We were married 14 May 2011 and still living honeymoon fashon.
