David P.'s Story
Life
Presently, contributing pro bono as the managing editor of PULSE Magazine (pulsemag.org) which is published by GMAD (Gay Men of African Descent), a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization. PULSE disseminates informative content for free to address pertinent issues within Black Gay America, in an effort to educate, heal, enlighten, and build a stronger understanding of and among this community.
Formerly, managed LaDuca Shoes (laducashoes.com), a dance and fashion footwear manufacturer, retailer, and supplier to stage and film productions as well as performing artists.
Formerly, he was the Director of Membership for In The Life Media (itltv.org), a nonprofit educational corporation and producer of In the Life, the award-winning LGBT newsmagazine broadcast. He also held other positions in communications & public affairs, web development, community relations, and volunteer management at In The Life Media.
Before ITLM, he was the assistant to the fiscal director, acting as a development associate and general manager of productions at the National Black Theatre, Inc. (nationalblacktheatre.org) in Harlem, New York.
Since graduating from Howard University's (howard.edu) College of Fine Arts, David has obtained training from the Institute for Financial Management as well as completed the professional Arts Administration program at New York University (nyu.edu). He is also a graduate of the Commercial Theater Institute (commer...Expand for more
cialtheaterinstitute.com), an industry-training program that educates and nurtures producers of Broadway and Off-Broadway commercial theater. Having an extensive theater arts background has provided him opportunities to work with for-profit and non-profit organizations.
With a career spanning more than thirty-five years, David's credentials vary from years as an actor/dancer/model/singer in television, fashion, theater, and the commercial advertisement industries. In this profession, he thanks his representation at Click, Boss, Paris, Abrams Artists, Barrington, McDonald/Richards, Johnston, Grace del Marco, and Dianne Hendy agencies which led to his being the first African American male hired to endorse Ralph Lauren Polo's Country and Golf collections (polo.com) and Clairol for Men (clairol.com), and appearing in numerous advertising campaigns.
Having production and performance experience in the arts has lead to myriad career pursuits. As a producer, David continues to make contributions to the theater/fine arts community through organizations such as Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS (broadwaycares.org), The ActorÂs Fund of America (actorsfund.org), Rejoicensemble (rejoicensemble.org), the Brooklyn Museum (brooklynmuseum.org), and American Film & Stage, to name a few.
David continues work in development, management, and consulting on special events and projects. He resides in the greater New York Metropolitan area.
