David's Story
Life
Left Alaska in 1979; moved to Virginia. Finished undergrad in 1984. Got married in 1985 between first two years of med school. Got MD in 1988. Finished a Navy pediatric internship in 1989 (during which my first son was born), then spent two years assigned to the Marines, travelling all over the Mediterranean. Spent another two years in a clinic in Norfolk, VA (during which my second son was born). Finished my family practice residency in Newport News, VA in 1995. 25 minutes north of Lynchburg. My wife helps with the front office work and shuttles around our two boys between school, church, soccer, etc.
Military
Did a pediatric internship at National Naval Medical Center 88-89. Was assigned to the Marines at Camp Lejeune, NC for the next two years, most of that time afloat in the Mediterranean during Desert Storm. From 91-93 was assigned to Boone Clinic in Norfolk, VA. Stayed in Reserves until 1999 when I resigned my commission and received an honorable discharge.
