David's Story
After graduating from St. Patrick School in 1963 I attended Bellarmine College Prep, graduating there in 1967. From there I went to the Univ. of Santa Clara as an Economics major, and received my B.A. in 1971. In 1973 I received my M.A. in Economics from Stanford University.
In 1970 I married my wonderful wife Joleen in the Santa Clara Mission church. Last year, 2018, we celebrated our 48th wedding anniversary. We have 3 sons, ages 42, 37 & 32. Both of the younger ones got their B.A. degrees at U.C. Santa Cruz, and in June 2015 the 32yr-old received his PhD in Sociology, Criminal Justice, Law & Society at U.C. Irvine. He joined the faculty at University of Miami at that time.
We currently have 2 grand-daughters, Lily, who is 8 years old, and Violet is 3. The proud parents of both are our oldest son, Nathan and his wife Mary.
As far as work is concerned, I worked for American Express in S.F. as an investment analyst, and then joined Wells Fargo Bank for 13 years as a branch manager. I was hired away from Wells by one of my customers there. They owned an insurance agency & brokerage firm, where I was Controller and Operations Manager. After 20 + years in that position the owners sold the firm to Wells Fargo Insurance, so I bounced back to Wells Fargo (Insu...Expand for more
rance rather than Bank). I retired from there after about 5 years. Through all the career moves above I was also teaching at several colleges in the Sacramento area, most frequently American River College, where I have taught Econ classes 2 nights per week for about 40 years.
My favorite sport , both as a player and spectator is tennis. I have been sidelined from my tennis career, and a lot of other activities, because of Parkinson's Disease, which I was diagnosed with in 2000. Life is never easy or perfect, is it? In 2011 I had brain surgery which helped with the symptoms, but P.D. is progressive and there is no cure (yet). Michael J. Fox and Billy Graham are 2 famous people with P.D. My favorite hobbies are reading and watching films. My top 5 films are : 1. Jean de Florette + Manon of the Springs ; 2. Enchanted April ; 3. The Green Mile ; 4. Waking Ned Devine 5. O Brother, Where Art Thou ?. (Favorite Christian movie is Shadowlands).
As regards spiritual life, Joleen and I currently attend Grace Church of Elk Grove, I think that living out our faith in a personal relationship with the Lord is more important than anything else in life. That's "My Story" so far, Hope to see yours soon!
