David's Story
I attended Wayside Elementary, grades 3 - 5, 1950 - 1952. We moved to Tulare County, to the village of Allensworth, in 1953 where I attended grades 6 - 8. Thereafter, I attended Delano High School 1955 - 1959. I attended Bakersfield Junior College 2 1/2 years and Fresno State for several years, graduating in 1968, after serving in the U. S. Army 1964 - 1966. After my military service I got a job as locomotive fireman (engineer trainee) in 1966. Although I earned my B. A. in 1968 to become an Industiral Arts teacher, I decided to remain at my company ATSF (Santa Fe RR), now BNSF. I was promoted to locomotive engineer in 1971, retiring in 2001 with 35 years in locomotive engine service. I operated trains between Bakersfield and Richmond, CA with Fresno as my home terminal. Since retiring from the RR, I have spent...Expand for more
several years as a substitute teacher.
I have been married to my wife Louise since 1964. We have 4 sons and 1 daughter, 5 grandsons and 5 granddaughters. We have lived mostly in Clovis and Fresno since 1966. We spent a couple years in San Bernardino County (San Bernardino and Hesperia); but now we're back in Clovis. Our house burned down in 1952 and all my elementary school pictures (except my kindergarten picture) up to that point were lost in the fire. If any of my fellow students from Wayside have any photos of that era with either myself or even some of my relatives in it or them, I would be thrilled if you would scan it or them and email me copies. I forgot to mention that my name is David Pierro. My teachers at Wayside were: Mrs Fulmer, 3rd grade; Mrs. Smaley, 4th grade; and Ms. Harlow, 5th grade. Thanks
