David's Story

Life Hello everyone, This is David's life story briefly. After high school, I was employed at Stauffer Chemical Company in Farmington, CT. After two years of working, I joined the US Navy to see the world and serve my country. Nine different country's two homeports and lots of travel and making new friends I was in my glory. I know I would never be able to see the world on my own. While serving for my country, we took part in a military exercise that turned out to be the invasion of grenade. That was lots of sleepless nights and days, but it was fun! The service tought me self-respect including respecting others. When you are on a ship you do have to respect other because of the tight quarters you where in. While serving my country in 1982 my father passed away of a heart failer. Never new if my dad was having problems because mom and dad said everything was fine. So when I got word of his death I was shocked! I just wanted to get home. I don't think I ever thanked everyone in my division who collected money for me to go home. It took a longtime but I finally made it and I would like to thank everyone in 1st division aboard the Uss Bainbridge CGN-25. After four weeks at home, I returned to the navy to complete my duty. After the service in 1984, I got out and went back home. In 1984, I returned to Stauffer Chemical because they offered me a job and I needed one. While in this positio...Expand for more
n the company was sold to another company called Cheese bough Ponds Company it two was a big company and kept our research company for five years. During those years, the company went through growing pains and soon had to sell off the facility to another company called ICI America's and that company sold parts of our company to other companies. This company lasted about five years and then was sold to Oread. This company keep us for five years and then sold us to Emisphere Technology where are company went from research to contract lab. After keeping us for five years or more we where again on the selling block. We were again sold to another contract lab that really had no business buying us. They spent lots of money and never went any where until they decided to close are facilities and sell off everything that was in the building. Until this day this 150 thousand square foot, building on 27 acres still sits empty. Workplace I have worked in the same building for 26 years in Farmington, and have enjoyed it every day. Now it is time to move on. Well after a year of being unemployed, my neighbor and I open a small handyman business and is doing well. Well after three years working with my neighbor he has closed shop and I have gone on my own. So in 2008 I have open Dave's Handyman Shop doing all sorts for small jobs. It has been two years now and doing well. Someday I will be making money.
