David's Story

Life Since our 30-year high school reunion is fast approaching, I thought I would do this! Who is the David that all of these years have worked to create? I am the proud father of a son who I hope I can help teach and guide through life's lessons. I am a son to an incredible mother who raised my brother and I single-handedly and taught me the lesson of being a good person even when times are bad. I am an employee to a company I love and have found a great nitch for myself in. I am a friend who prefers quality of friendship over quantity, and I would give the shirt off my back for those I care about. I am a lover of music in many of its forms, and I love pelting out a tune at karaoke or hitting the dance floor occassionally. I am an avid dog-lover, and my current pet Pixie keeps my laughing with her antics, and is one of the best dogs I have every owned! I love the outdoors, and most sunny days you will find Pixie and I at the dog park or exploring hiking trails. Volleyball is still my sport of choice, and I captain multiple teams all year long for both indoor competitive and sand leagues. I love to travel, whether it's an actual vacation or just packing up the car for a weekend road trip. Basically, I am a man who enjoys living life to the fullest, and am thankful to God for the many blessings I have received in my lifetime. I hope that I am making a positive impact on the lives of those around me and as best as I can sharing God's love back into the world around me. School Ahhh the 80's! You gotta love 'em!! I really enjoyed my high school days, but I am not one to think upon them as the "glory days". Life has only gotten better and better as time goes on! My favorite classes at Pueblo High School were Journalism and Drama. Everyone always told me I was going to be the next Michael J. Fox when I hit the acting career big! My favorite teachers were Ms. Betts and Mr. Montgomery. Anyone who spent time with those two teachers would agree with me that they were not just teachers, they were friends as well. My favorite sports were volleyball and tennis, and I also pole vaulted for a couple of years on the track team. Anyone remember when the pole broke and I fell on my head? That could explain a lot about me! Some of my favorite activities then were hiking the mountains around Tucson (Gate's Pass, Sabino Canyon), dancing like I thought I knew how (Mirage, Deja Vu, The Wildcat House), watching movies (how many of you did I let into the El Con AMC for free when I worked the...Expand for more
re?), cruising Speeway on Friday nights, sucking down a big pina colada Eeggee's by the pool or at Breakers/Justin's Water parks during the summer, and getting into pretty much any mischief that me and my best friend Kenny could find! Still my best friend in the world after all of these years! College While serving on the USS Alaska, I was selected for a Navy college program. I gave up a cushy 3-year tour as an instructor in Orlando, Florida to further my education as a full time student for 2 years. I pursued a rather insane school schedule in Electrical Engineering at Tacoma Community College in Tacoma, Washington. I can truly say this was 2 of the best and most fun years of my life. I had great friends, was snow skiing like mad every winter, taking plenty of vacations during school break time, and playing tons of volleyball (my favorite sport since I was 13) all year 'round! My 2 best friends from school were Jeff Chandler and Chris Handy from Washington State (if you guys ever read this you had BETTER get ahold of me!!). I ended up taking so many classes that I graduated with 2 Associate's Degrees instead of one. When I left the Navy, I gave up pursuit of my degree in favor of obtaining multiple computer certifications instead. I currently hold numerous certifications from Microsoft and CIW, and am a certified Webmaster and Technical Instructor for both of them as well. I am trying to get to a point in life now where work/personal are equalized enough that I can finally finish up my Bachelor's Degree in Digital Communications and Marketing. Military I joined the Navy immediately after high school. I volunteered for submarine duty and did almost 2 years of intense training in Nuclear Engineering & Technology in Florida and Idaho. I was stationed in the Pacific Northwest (close to Seattle) for over 11 years. I did a 5 year tour on the USS Alaka (SSBN 732 - Blue Crew), which is an Ohio Class Trident Missile submarine. I loved that part of the country and became an avid snow skiing fanatic! I was selected for a Navy college program, where I went to school full time for 2 years (see the "college" tab here). After school, I was picked up for duty on the USS Parche (SSN 683), which was the last of the Special Projects spy subs. It was the toughest 4+ years I have spent in my entire life (both professionally & personally), but I would not give back one single memory. During this time my son Reece was born, and I moved onto the best career of my entire life...being a father!
