During the summer of 1959, our family moved to Omaha, NE. Brother Phil Schroeder joined the Army and Rodger and I attended schools in Omaha. I graduated from North High in 1963 and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in January, 1968.
Married high school sweetheart, Sharon Giddings, August 11, 1967. Finished Bachelor's in Business Administration in January, 1968.
Attended Navy Officer Candidate School, Newport, Rhode Island from April, 1968, to August, 1968. Graduated with Distinction and was commissioned an Ensign. Attended Navy Supply Corps School in Athens, Georgia from September, 1968, to March, 1969. Requested duty aboard an arduously deployed ship in Vietnam and was assigned to USS Sanctuary (AH-17) --a hospital ship anchored in DaNang Harbor. returned to school to pursue a Bachelor's Degree in Education and a Master's in Educational Administration. After teaching science and math to fifth grade students for four years, David became a teacher-leader, assistant-principal (junior high), and principal at Harrison Elementary School in Omaha. After developing a brain tumor, a condition that was diagnosed as Cushing's Syndrome, David successfully survived brain surgery and returned to educational duties in the Student Personnel Department of Omaha Public Schools. David retired after 30 years of work in the education of students in the Omaha area.
Now, Sharon and Dave live in a townhouse in West Omaha. They have two daughters, Suzanne and Stacy, both of whom live in Omaha. Suzanne is an office manager with Traveler's Insurance Company, and Stacy is a teacher of foreign languages--Spanish and French to eighth graders in the Omaha Public Schools.
David's favorite pastime is sailing. Dave's boats are a 16 foot Windrider Trimaran, and a 26 ft. Clipper Marine 26 sailboat. Sharon and Dave have chartered boats using Dave's "bareboat" charter certificate earned after taking several sailing courses through the American Sailing Association. We have chartered a Hunter 34 on Tampa Bay, Beneteau 32 on Lake Superior, Catalina 30 on Lake Superior, Hunter 290 on Kentucky Lake, Precision 28 on the Sea of Abaco--Hope Town--Elbow Cay--Bahamas.
