David's Story
Life After graduating from Davenport Central
I attended Augustana College for two years and then the U of Iowa for two years. During those years I worked at the Davenport YM-YWCA in various positions and it is there that I met the woman I would later marry. We have 4 children and 10 grandchildren. Our oldest, Brian, was adopted from Viet Nam when he was 9 months old. He had heart valve issues but those miraculously disappeared over time. He has a Paralegal degree and is a probation officer for Rock Island County. Our next child, Dawn, was one of our foster children. We were able to adopt her. She had Cerebral Palsy at birth. She has progressed far beyond the school systems predictions. She is currently employed at ARC Industries. She has moved in to her first apartment and really enjoys being independent. Our first natural born child, Peter, had meningitis at 18 months. He recovered with no issues and now has a family counseling practice in St. Louis. Katherine is our youngest and had fevers of unknown origin as an infant but recovered and has had no further issues. She got her degree in signing for the deaf. She is our church organist and is a stay at home Mom. I worked at Republic Electric, Graybar Electric and Lighting Associates before finally starting a career with John Deere. I retired from Deere in January 2005 and then consulted for Sedona Technologies working on a project for John Deere Turf Care. I did a whirlwind tour of Europe t...Expand for more
he summer of 2007. Really was awed by the architecture. I have also worked as a Quality Control Auditor for Nott Co., headquartered in Minneapolis. For 50 years we have lived at the same home in Milan Illinois. In 2012 I attended my 45th year high school class reunion and really enjoyed it. I worked on landscape around the property. In 2013 I again consulted through Volt Staffing for John Deere Davenport works where I purchased all the electrical components used in the cabs of all the machines produced at Davenport and Dubuque Works. In 2014 I built a stone "Island" patio out in the back yard overlooking a fire pit that I built in 2013. I also expanded my flower gardens and converted my double garage doors into a single door. In 2016 I had neck surgery fusing C3 through C7. Still recuperating, Went to northern Wisconsin for a fishing vacation with family last year. In 2017 had an 8 hour surgery on my lower back fusing L3 to S1. Currently going to physical therapy. Attended our 50th class reunion in August and had a wonderful time. Toured J.B Young juni0r high school and Central High School. Fantastic new pool and auditorium at Central. The tour sure brought back many fond memories.
In 2022 I contracted COVID and was hospitalized for 6 months. Am feeling fine now.
On May 29th 2026 my wife and I celebrated our 55th anniversary. We have 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
I pray all is well with everyone that reads this.
