David's Story
After high school I attended Oregon Tech. The summer of my Junior year I was denied financial aide and kicked out of school. It was another David Smith who flunked out and someone made a mistake that took a year to straighten out. Due to the elimination of my program I had to challenge courses and take extra classes to get the degree I was working for. Basically I had tofight for my degree, but I did get my Bachelor's degree in Automotive/Diesel in 1987.
I married in 1985 and have 2 sons. One works for our local school district on computer systems. The oldest son is shipping out to Afganistan May 2011 for a 6-12 month tour in The Air Force. He is planning to go career.
After graduating OIT I moved to California and can't seem to be able to escape. In 1987 I went to the California Department of Corrections Academy and took a post at Pelican Bay State Prison. In 2002 I was injured and am Medically Retired. Opened a gunshop in Crescent City and was put out of business by the Franchise Tax Board. I now am the manager of the only pawns...Expand for more
hop in Del Norte county. A great job to collect toys but dealing with the fun class of people can be fun. The gangbangers in the prison are more respectable then a good portion of the clientel tha frequent a pawnshop.
My hobbies include shooting sports and weapons training and am a life member of Front Sight, a training facility outside of Las Vegas. They train instuctors for Special Forces and LAPD SWAT. I drag race a 1966 Pontiac GTO and a 1978 Kawasaki KZ1000 Dragbike. My oldest son was on TV at the November 2010 Phoenix Pinks All Out. He has been racing since age 11 in Jr. Dragsters and at 16 was driving a 10 second Cadillac powerd Chevy Vega.
I build custom firearms and paintball markers. I have even traveled to Oklahoma just to play paintball at the largest game in the world, Oklahoma D-Day, a re-enactment of all major battles of D-Day. The dragracing is on hold for now but I hope to get back into it soon.
My wife is back in school to become a pharmacist. I get to retire and play with my many projects I have when she is done.
