David's Story
I grew up on Edward St., in central Halifax, east side of the street, about half-way between Bliss and Binney, in the lower of a set of flats my family owned. I attended LeMarchant St. School until grade 5, but half of us ended up doing grade 6 at Cornwallis Junior High because of limited space at LeMarchant. Went to QEH for 10 and 11, but didn't go to grade 12, instead entered Dalhousie University, initially in a Science/Pre-Med program. that stayed on for a Masters in Biology in the same lab I had done my undergraduate research, then, after finishing that, headed off to central Pennsylvania and the main campus of Penn State to pursue a Ph.D. in Biophysics. Nearly stayed in the US but potential post-docs fell through, I saw an ad for a post doc position in the Dalhousie Med School, and in Nov. of 1978 returned to work at Dal, initially living in Dartmouth, and eventually moving to where I am now, Fall River. Officially retired from my university research position in Oct. of 2010.
