David's Story
Life
Left for the Air Force right out of school, less than two weeks after graduation. Spent 29 years on active duty and retired as a Chief Master Sergeant(E-9) on the 1st of July 1996, and what a ride it was. I actually left active duty in March 1996.
I returned from overseas in January 1971 after my second tour and found the world a very different place so I reenlisted. I tried a lot of things after retiring yet nothing made me feel comfortable, so I became a meat cutter, some call it butcher, and I was very happy for about 15 years.
I lived all over the world while in the Air Force; the Far East, Southeast Asia, South and Central America, and Southwest Asia. I was only stationed at three bases in the U.S.; Davis-Monthan in Tucson, Offutt AFB in Omaha, and Randolph AFB. I finished my enlistment at Randolph AFB in San Antonio, Texas and that is where Isabel (my friend and spouse of 44 years)and I decided to stay. My two daughters and grandchildren live here, so I have no need to leave. I visit Tucson once every year or two, my brothers and sisters still live there and only a few close friends still remain. I guess I'll continue visiting as l...Expand for more
ong as I can.
I'm a Harley rider, I've been riding since 1974, I currently ride a 1993 Heritage and will continue to ride until I can't get my leg over the saddle. Last time I rode to Tucson on my Harley was in 1998.
I completely retired on the 28th of February 2012. Would have kept on working if my wife hadn't been diagnosed with Stage 4 Kidney Disease. I'm glad I retired because the first year was like a mad house. She is still doing well, no dialysis yet. She has done real well with medication and diet but it will never get better. The best with can hope for is that she can continue to stay off dialysis. She is on the transplant list and two possible donors have been identified, now they just have to go through the screening process which takes months.
Was just in Tucson from August 6 thru the 16th, 2013. Spent a lot of time with the families, both mine and my wife's. Had a real good time. Got to spend some time with some old class of 67 friends, Alex Baray, Dicky Bravo, Fernie Perez, Mike Abril and Al Pesqueira, what a gab session.
We'll continue to visit Tucson as long as we can, as long as we still have family and friends there.
