David's Story
Workplace
Well after high school I have joined the navy and love it so far. I joined on 21 May 1997 and was off to boot camp. Ater that I went to Port Hueneme Ca. to recieve training on being a construction mechanic. California was ok to visit but it is one place I can't live. Now I was finally in Gulfport Ms. It was something different for me to experience. I was permently station there for 54 months. I have been deployed to Bosnia, Rota Spain, Lemoore California, and Pearl Harbor Hawaii. Other countries I have seen are Canada, Mexico, Germany, and France. I have been promoted three times and now my current rank is Construction Mechanic Third Class. I have gained much knowlege and experence. Some of the positions I have held were pol cordinator (petroliem, oils and lubricants) Hazerdous Material cordinator, Tool Room castodian, and just a plain Floor Mechanic. I love my work and I plan to do this untill I retire. I am currently assingned to Naval Air Station Fallon, NV. I have been living hear for about 3.5 yrs. I like it here theh people are great and friendly. I have been promoted to the rank of Construction Mechanic 2nd Class. I now am a floor supervisor for the CBMU 303 Detail Fallon formerly CBU 416. I like this position it has presented me with new challenges. I have been able to solve most of them...Expand for more
and still working on a few. While I was here I was temporarly assinged to Fleet Hospital 8 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. My job there was a generator mechanic where I was tasked with the maintainence of 37 100 kw generators. I got to see what happens to people during a war and how the hospital fixes our men and women and help them get well to serve our country again. Not pretty but a fact of life. But that is all for now more to come later.
Well I have decided to get out of the Navy now and start a new life as a civilian. I have a job as a mechanic for a farm company called Mercer Canyons in Prosser, WA. I like the job it has presented me with some challenges that the navy never did and it is hard. I was taking care of all of the older chevy small trucks but now I have been reassigned to trailers where I am learning how to weld and fabricate. Now thats a challange.
Things didn't work out for this job. Promises were made but none were kept. Now I am at a new job. I may not be in the navy anymore but I feel I still owe my country something. I have taken up a job in Iraq. I am an Enigeneer Equipment Mechanic, the samething as in the navy but for a contracting service now. I have still yet to make a judgement on this job but I have plenty of time before that. It is hot here. More to come later.
