David's Story
Since graduating from Bogata High School in 1964, I have worked for 33 years in the public schools. I taught social studies and English at Avinger for 14 years. Then I taught social studies for 2 years at Mt. Vernon. That is where I met my wife, Pam. We met in in-service my first day on the job. I moved back to Avinger to be principal. Soon Pam followed me and we were married. I was 40!
Then I went to Roxton to be principal for one year while I finished my Master's degree at ETSU.
West Texas called me to Wilson to be superintendent. We lived there for 4 years. That is where Sarah was born in 1989.
Finally, we moved to Savoy where I served as superintendent...Expand for more
for 9 years. I retired from that job in 2000.
Since retirement, I have worked at Sears, Mervyns, H & R Block, the North East Texas e-News, and currently do real estate searches for a law firm in Little Rock.
We have recently bought a farm house in Franklin County, Texas, and will be moving there sometimes this fall.
Well, another chapter in my work history was forced on me because Texas retired educators have not gotten a increase in pension check since 2001. The generous Texas legislature gave us a 13th check one year. The cost of living has increased tremendously since 2001, so I have had to get another job. I now do real estate research in southern Arkansas
