David's Story
Life
Retired in 2005 from 25+ years in the Air Force. During that time, I wore stripes to Oak leaves, married twice and divorced twice -(wasn't it Mrs. Benson that said the equation should be equal), have a daughter-Melissa (23) and son-Clayton (22); lived in Denmark, Germany, Portugal and spent enough time in Saudi Arabia, Honduras, and Qatar to claim residency, toured and/or saw most of Western Europe - except Andorra - and some of Eastern Europe. Four Continents, 32 Countries and 50 States later with with a total of 3100 flying hours (not as a pilot, but radar officer) have kept me occupied.
Some of my most memorable, beautiful and sobering locations are:
Berchtesgaden and Oberammergau Germany; Grindelwald, Switzerland; The Rhine River; Southwestern Colorado - Durango, Silverton, and Mesa Verde; The Adirondacks in New York; Portugal - Vila Real to Viseu, Monsanto (village of rocks), and Caba de Roca; The Palace and grounds at Versailles, France; Auschwitz, Poland; Gibralter - and the straits;...Expand for more
The Grand Canyon; a view of a blood red moon from the top of the Eiffel Tower, seeing the Great Pyramids of Egypt at over 5 miles high, and sitting as an observer in the cockpit during a daytime refueling.
I still enjoy reading (through bifocals now), have a moderate reference library on or about the American Civil War, have acquired a modest interest in astronomy, an avid interest in N-scale model railroading, and since settling down in Kathleen, GA have put in a garden and built my own arbor. I changed careers completely after retiring and have entered the Wholesale Electrical business.
I've lived my dream - period! Some of it was hard and painful, most of it at near light speed, a long-distance daddy who spent most free moments keeping his kids near, and more memories, stories, and experiences than I could cronicle or others read.
For the future - who knows, but something exciting is still around the corner. Sure would like to vacation and/or visit Romania some time in the future.
