Dawn Cherri's Story
After graduating from Bennett in 1977 (I believe I may have been the last graduate to receive the May Friend Bennett Medallion), I went on to Pratt Institute in Brooklyn and received my Bachelors of Fine Arts, Class of 1980. I never went into the Fashion/Merchandising career. Ended up in accounting. Worked with a company for 22 years. I answered the call to preach the Word of God in 1997. During that time I attended Bible School. I became the first woman to be licensed (December,1997) and ordained (2005)into the Gospel ministry in my home church. I went on to receive my Masters of Divinity in 2003 from New York Theological Seminary (could not get away from New York!)In between all of that, I experienced several life threatening surgeries and a bout with breast cancer. art-time and I am seeking a full-time ministerial position. Inthe midst of this, I will be attending Chaplaincy classes at Greenwich Hospital, Greenwich, CT. and I will be starting my own ministry (not church). I am not married (guess it wasn't in the Master's plan, yet) and have one foster child, who happens to be my youngest niece. My parents and my four siblings are still alive and well. I have been blessed with three neohews, two nieces and one great-nephew. I still live in Stamford, Connecticut and doing the Lord's work. I have been blessed to continue my friendship with Jennifer McClinton (nee Baker)and visit with her and her family in Poughkeepsie and Beacon,NY. I often wonder where everyone is.
