Dawn's Story
Life
Married GeeGee Gambone, class of '64, in 1966. We have 3 kids, 11 grandchildren and 2 greatgrandsons. We moved to Hawai'i in 1991. I finally got my BA in 1998, and my teacher's certification 2000. Gee has a Deli called the Philly-sophical Deli, where he introduced the cheesesteak to the local population. Here, they sometimes put the meat on rice rather than a roll. I worked at Konawaena High as an 9th grade English and History teacher. I hope you are all well.
I'm sorry to report that GeeGee passed away on January 25th, '06. Because the Deli was GeeGee's place, it had to close. I want to thank all of you who sent condolences and good wishes to my children and I. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Workplace
I am currently a ninth grade English teacher and 12th grade English including AP Literature (can sainthood be far behind), and in the past I was a 12th grade English and Geography teacher, and alternative classroom teacher from 9th to 12th grade. I really love it, but I find it very strange to be teaching. I remember saying that the last thing I would ever be is a teacher. Go figure. I am considering applying for a Master's program, but I am wondering if I have the stamina. NOPE. Getting close to retirement.
Hey guys, I got promoted. All seniors this year, except for a few j...Expand for more
uniors in AP Lit.
Update: no I don't have the stamina or the money. As of now my teaching loans won't be paid until the year I retire, receive social security and I am eligible for a very small pension, when I am sixty-six.
Update: I will soon turn 66, but I was able to pay off my loans last Feb. through the Title 1 teacher forgiveness program. I have since graduated to British Lit. & Expostory Writing, no more 9th graders. I think I will only teach about 2 more years. On the family front, I am now a greatgrandmother. Egads!
Update: Have officially retired as of July 1 2, 2014, but with a teacher partner took 4 students to Ireland, Scotland, and England. Don't remember much of Ireland except the beauty. We spent 24 hrs. traveling For some reason got the eebie jeebies in Dublin. One day in Wales, and then onto Scotland, where we went to Sterling Castle, saw the Stone of Scone (?) Cried, and went to Wallace Memorial. England, Avon (Shakespeare), Bath, Canterbury, Stonehenge. Cried . Will probably go back to substitute to save money for the reunion. I really miss the kids but not the BS. I hope to see you all in October.
I am trying to find a boy I believe was a Jan'65 graduate, who play tictactoe with me during French. I've been trying to remember his name. I believe he went to Vietnam after being drafted.
