Dawn's Story
Life - time for an update....
Here I am, 2008, still in Fort McMurray Alberta. I have spent the biggest part of this year dealing with cancer and I'm feeling pretty good today. Still have 2 children 31 and 32, 2 stepsons 29 and 30, 8 grandchildren and 1 more on the way and will be 52 this year. Wow, time flies! We came west in 1978 and I love it here. I was always trying to get out of the city. Love Toronto and still call it my home town but life is so much more "Me" out in the sticks. I ended up spending 25 years helping others in my work as an educational assistant, personal aide, school counsellor, school/community liaison, and Community Resource worker for Gov. of Alberta. This year I made a change and moved over to the Oil Sands Industry....finally... as a Community Engagement worker, I used to love the work. I enjoyed the ...Expand for more
winters here. We spent time snowmobiling, having cookups, standing around firepits with friends. However, now I'm looking forward after 30 years to moving further south. but I'm bushed now = couldn't go back to city living. Our kids have married marvelous, wonderful partners and are all happy, healthy, contributing members of society....that was the goal! My husband, Quinn, is a great guy who is a wonderful woodsman and great cook. The oldest of 12 children who grew up on a farm in the remote north; he is no stranger to hard work and is very handy too. We share the same philosophy that "Your Happiness is Directly related to your Helpfulness" We are looking forward to our retirement and have a nice motorhome to travel where ever we want when ever we want with whomever we want to. Looking forward to hearing from some past friends.
