Dawn's Story

School Good old Glenbard West....I was definitely not a popular kid but fell more into the nerd category. I loved Miss Dowling (English) and Sr. Diaz, my Spanish teacher. I went steady pretty much the whole time I was in High School with Andy McLain, who is still a really good guy. One of my best memories of high school itself was being part of a voluntary senior girls gym class...the old gym had been condemned, basically, and there was no room for us in Biester, so we were actually exempt from Senior Gym class that year. I took it anyway; we did great things like camping, etc. rather than just the usual. What the heck was that gym teacher's name??? Her mother was always in charge of uniforms and towels....I also remember the time that the guys streaked the field during some game or other, at halftime, I think. College I attended East Carolina University, majoring in Science Education, when I was in my 30's...it was a hundred mile round trip from where I lived in New Bern, NC. I had to wait until my two kids were a bit older before I felt comfortable leaving them for a trip like that. After I moved back to Illinois (just 6 years ago) I completed my Master's in Ed. Leadership at Aurora University. I am currently working on my doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction from A...Expand for more
urora U. Workplace Wow...lets see. First job at age 15 in downtown Glen Ellyn selling popcorn for the Rotary Club. Terrible wintertime job, I felt like a street urchin..."please sir, buy my popcorn?". Worked at the Flour Barrel Bakery until Senior year, then moved to California. Had several jobs there; I worked in credit and collections for UC Irvine Medical Center in offices on the 18th floor of the Bank of America building...moved to Seattle (actually Whidbey Island) and ran a seafood restaurant there for awhile, then back to Chicago where I worked for DuPage Co. Hospital in medical records. From there to North Carolina, then South Carolina where I again helped with restaurant management on Parris Island Marine Corps depot. Finally back to North Carolina, where I was the lab T.A. for biology and chemistry at the local community college (Craven Comm. College, in New Bern, N.C.). Got my degree eventually and began working as a Physical Science Teacher at New Bern HS. Moved on to teaching Chemistry and Physics, but then left N.C. to come back home in 1999. Currently I teach Chemistry at Oswego High School, and I am also the Science Dept. Chair there. Good heavens, that's quite a bit of bouncing around!! Military Never in the Marines, but might as well have been! OOHRAH!!
