Dawn's Story
Life
30th reunion came and went. It was a blast. I enjoyed seeing my family and reconnecting with old friends. The weekend flew by.
Following the reunion in Oklahoma, I flew to South Caroline to watch my niece graduate from high school. It was just an overnight trip, but it was a treat to see her and her brother.
The next month the husband, man-cub and I flew to Oklahoma (again) for a semi-reunion with most of my family including my daughter and her husband and most importantly, my grand daughter. We had a blast. Went to Woolaroc, Har-Ber Village (in Grove, OK), and hanging out.
A few weeks after that I flew to San Antonio to see my mom, grandma, daughter, grand daughter and son-in-law. We finally got our 5 generation picture.
Now, it's back to the same ol' same ol'.
Family's still good. I've been married to Steve for over 20 years. For a starter husband, I was married to Brian Whittaker for 8 years. With few exceptions, 18 is entirely too young to get married. All was not for naught, though. We had three great kids together. The oldest Whittaker child has been married for four years. The second one married in Orlando on February 2 and we had a wonderful weekend seeing my family, old friends, and of course, the Whittaker family. The third Whittaker child was married on July 13 '07 in Lancaster, California. We had a lot of fun sharing old stories. My youngest child, Sam, is now 11 and in sixth grade. He's a voracious reader and loves video games. He's currently mastering Guitar Hero II. Occasionally the whol...Expand for more
e family will play Rock Band. We have an Irish Wolfhound named Rosie and that rounds out our family.
Oh, oh, I forgot to add -- I'm a gramma now. My beautiful Eleanor Dawn was born March 12 in New York City. I had the privilege of spending the first few days "helping" which can be interpreted as "give me that baby to hold." It was wonderful. If you're interested, you can read my daughter's blog at andreadawn.wordpress.com. It gets updated every week or two and always includes new pictures. The baby is ADORABLE. They're moving to Philadelphia in October and will embark on a whole new set of adventures.
Professional life -- since I spent my early years breeding, I started junior college at age 33 or 34, culminating in graduation from University of Florida's law school in 2002. I've worked as a prosecutor since then, which is great fun. I don't have to do grisly stuff, only little crimes done by little kids. It's a sweet gig. I enjoy my job. I like my co-workers. Very rarely, I think I make a difference. Plus the important part -- great health insurance
My family no longer lives in Bartlesville. They're centered in Grove, which is quite lovely. My brother builds beautiful homes there. If you move there, look for "Homes By Herb," tell him Dawnie sent you. Prior to the reunion, I'm going to spend two days in Grove. I have a sister in Claremore, too. Her kids are 3 and 5 and I'm ashamed to say this will be the first time I meet them in person. I'm a very bad aunt. I send the occasional gift, but I'm pretty wretched.
