Dawn's Story
Life
I went from 1st through 12th grades at Lowell. Then, Lane Community College for further accounting and other office adm. skills.
I married my high school boyfriend (Dan Burkhart) in April 1960. He was in the Army. I went to New Jersey then to Virginia with him. I had jobs in both places. We had a baby boy at an Army hospital in June 1961. With no forewarning, Dan bought a one-way plane ticket to Oregon and sent me and my baby back to Oregon in Feb.1962. He knew I was two months pregnant. I had a baby girl 7 months later, alone. I had a part-time bookkeeping job in Lowell. After the Army, we moved to Idaho Falls, then to Las Vegas, NV, where we had a baby boy in 1964. In 1966, Dan moved me and the kids to Lowell and he worked in Portland where he had an extended affair with a waitress. We eventually moved to Eugene. Unknown to me, a couple of years later, this waitress contacted him again. In Jan.1971,he deserted me and the kids. I learned much later he had been dating her.

-time. I met and married a deputy sheriff in 1974 and worked half-days and took some oil painting classes. I sang with the Sweet Adelines for awhile. We were divorced in 1977. He was not a family man. Back to working full-time.
I've been single ever since then. My kids grew up, went to college and married (and still are), and I have six grandchildren. I've written songs that were inspired by love, hurt, my kids and Oregon. A couple are copyrighted. A local school's choir sang them. The words to one of my Oregon songs was printed in a Sunday Las Vegas newspaper's poetry page.
I retired in Jan. 2003. My goals are to market those songs and get back to oil painting, and fine-tune my piano skills. (Hopefully, THIS winter!) I live in Springfield near the old historic Dorris Ranch and the Willamette River with my cat. Two of my kids and their families live nearby, so, I've been busy with them and and home improvements.
I'd love to hear from any of my old friends and acquaintances from school.
