De'Shaunda's Story
Life
I am doing fine. After high school (North Fosyth), I went to complete a BA in History at Lychburg College in VA. In Lynchburg I met a community of people that I grew to love, and have never forgotten. While at Lynchburg College all of us especially, Stacey, Shawn Ward, Turk, Chavis, DeAnna, LaDonna, Tony,Toni, and Tony (ha-ha-ha), Sabrina, Holly, Charlene, Shira, and many others, worked, studied, attended parties and social gatherings, and enjoyed our years with each other there. Soon after graduation I moved back home to Winston-Salem, NC, where I have remained working in the public school system as an educator. Presently, I have completed my Masters degree at Cambridge College in Mass, and will enter into the CAGS Program this summer on the road to my Ph.D, finally! I have not had children, and am not married, but look forward to a wonderful future with those additions.
College
The most memorable thing about Lynchburg College were the friendships that I formed. I can remember it like yesterday, STP. For those of you who were there you know! That was the time that many African American, soon to be freshmen, bonded. We had Mama Lea to thank for that one. After STP, the regular semester began, and so did the action and dramatics of the college campus. Most of us lived in harmony, attended class, worked an...Expand for more
d socialized. I will never forget my peers, the instructors, cafeteria staff, and the little holes in the wall. Remember those: Glass House, Pepper Box, Smitty's and TJ's, it was all fun and games. Ladies, we also remember the nights studying, when the boys (Chavis, Turk, Vernon, George, Sean, Chris, and some others)came to Montgomery freshmen year
and started their own frat... Oh, God! Those were the days! Also, some of the good times we had in Westover and dances at Randy Mack. Through all the soccer house, basketball house, Phi Beta Sigma, and the others, we had FUN! These were the most memorable moments for me. Who would have knwon that we would become the individuals we are now. It is so funny how life turns out, and God directs our path back to ful center. Now that we are all somewhere in our 30's I wonder if somewhere, sometime, in some place, will our paths cross again so we can see the Dolly's (who dissappeared), the Leslies (who I know is in film production somewhere), the Scott's and George's (that transfered), and the Rachael's, (who went back home to the Island's). We have learned so much from each other, and where much is given, much is required to give back. To all that may click on my name, and read this I say, don't forget remember, I will never stop remembering you.
Rest in peace David, 1996
