Dean's Story
Life
My Wife
At a nightclub in Woodland Hills. It was a chance in a million meeting.
My Pets
Just a fish tank w/ tropical fish and a house full of rare tropical plants inside and out (my hobby). I used to have reptiles, but my wife would freak if she had to deal w/ them, so I never got them again.
My Job
I am a Unix Administrator for Alcatel, a major multinational French based corporation. I work with a great group of people and get enough headaches, but they pay me well, so I'm not complaining!
School
What can I say?
My family moved around so much that I never got to establish roots much anywhere. Out of all of it, my years at Village were the best, but everyone was so far away that my social life pretty much sucked. I guess you could say the best part of school for me was graduating from it. ;-)
College
What else can I say?
UCLA was a world away from Village.
No restictions, no parents( big :-) ), and new experiences meant it didn't take long to get in a lot of trouble. :-)
But, I straightened up, did my courseload, and manged to graduate with a degree in Geography/Ecosystems, while holding down 20 to 30 hours/week employment and have a blossoming relationship with my future ex-wife (oh well, can'...Expand for more

Workplace
I started working on Sun hardware 13 years ago for a software company producing analytics and DOT execution on the NYSE for Wall Street firms. Then I became an assistant to the Unix Administrator, working in Culver City for 5 years until a dream job opened up as a UNIX SE for a tech firm in their Hawaii branch.
The job in Honolulu had it ups and downs, but the people there were great and I love the Islands. I only stayed for about 4 months due to personal, non-work related issues. I'd go back to Hawaii in an instant if I could.
Took some time off and finally started working as a Unix Administrator again in MIS for an network switching technolgy firm, which was subsequesntly, puchased by my current employer, a large French telcom. Took off after the acquistion for a time to buy a GT and explore a dot com, but returned just before it and many others fell to Earth as dot bombs! Managed to hold on to my job here while 40% of the work force vanished. :-(
With the mass cullings done, I can finally say again that I enjoy my job and get along well with my co-workers and a have a great boss.
...but I might just give it all up to go back to Hawaii. Or maybe South Florida, 'cause I love the tropics. :-)
