I joined the Army two weeks after high school and spent four years on active duty as a military police officer. While in the Army I also became a certified commercial salvage diver. I then spent another four years in the Massachusetts National Guard as a Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Weapons Specialist. During that time I returned to my pre-military trade and worked as a bricklayer and a cement finisher for several years but eventually decided to take a different path. I began working at Seabrook Nuclear Power Station as a Radiological Waste Handler. I attended Northern Essex Community College and Salem State College at night working toward a degree in biology. After college I went to work for the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Management as a forest firefighter. After 9-11, I chose to dust-off my military training and went to work for the newly formed Department of Homeland Security and in 2004, after several years of looking for explosive residue I felt the need to return to my love of environmental work.
