Deanna's Story
Life
High School came and went, then college followed the same pattern. After graduating with a B.S. degree I actually used my major and taught preschool for two years with head start in Oregon where I also went to college. After teaching I took a couple months to travel to San Diego, San Francisco, Alaska, and Hawaii. I then joined americorps in August of 2003 in Charleston, SC as an NCCC member. I was able to spend time in TN, AL, GA, SC, LA, and FL- doing projects with Habitat for Humanity, the Nature Conservancy and more. I loved my experience. I returned to Oregon and helped coach a parks and rec soccer team, volunteered at a couple non-profit organizations and worked at Tina's- a fine dining restaurant in Dundee, Orego...Expand for more
n- as a prep chef. In January I had training in Provo, Utah for another term of service with Americorps in Alaska. Anchorage is beautiful and I am excited that warmer weather is upon me. I am working with a non-profit called Nine Star Enterprises, as their Volunteer Recruiter while also dabbling in Public Relations and Marketing. The nomad in me won't let go and I am already thinking of what next adventure I will take on. I may have a chance to go hang gliding soon as one of my friends has a discount. It might not be as cool as sky diving and bungy jumping was but I am willing to give it its fair chance! Come visit in Alaska or after the New Year- in Oregon!
