Deanna's Story

Look up Deanna/Gypsy on MySpace or Deanna Welch-Cram on Facebook and read the profiles there, you can see my photos, me and my two children, Jennifer, 26 and Dylan, 11. They really are the loves of my life and the most important people (accomplishments and works in progress.) I've been richly blessed in friendships. Still close friends with Linda and Margaret (formerly Thomasson). Family is still a little complicated! Since Tyee, I went to TPJCC and got my GED ahead of my graduating class ('76) :o} I never would have made it through those years or gotten an edumacation without having gone. I really got to know myself better by being away from home and came into my own there. Most importantly, I enjoyed the amazing diversity of people there - so different from Tyee at that time. So, from Job Corps in Astoria, Ore., I moved to California to start fresh somewhere warm and sunny. Five years and several jobs later, I met my daughter's dad and we married, had Jennifer, and parted friends after 3 years. During the last year in California, I attended Beauty School at Santa Monica Community College, took and passed state board exams at the Hollywood branch, but chose to move back to Seattle to start my career as a Beautician. I started working in Renton Highlands. Dancing has always been something I enjoyed - and one of the only exercises that is really rewarding while you're doing it!!! I started going to Country Dance places and doing Ballroom and Swing, Schottish, Shuffle Polka, 2-step, Waltz, etc. and was in the best shape for awhile there!! That was about the time of the 10 year reunion! By the time of the 20th year reunion, I'd gone to Massage School and become an LMP - Licensed Massage Practioner - and had added that to my business in the salon. I had remarried 2 years before and had just given birth to my son on July 28th of '96. He has Down syndrome and the whole first year was a blur of medical issues for him and me,too. Our first Christmas, ...Expand for more
we were at Children's Hospital for a week, one of the most peaceful of weeks because I was relieved of all responsibilities except for what really mattered in that moment: life or death. It's kind of like time standing still. Long story and many other visits to Children's etc. and Dylan is a bright light in my life, a constant challenge and a joy, and so different than my daughter, who is also strong-willed and much more practical and logical than I am (thank God!!) She got my curly hair and green eyes, and she is very athletic. (She is Yenny on my MySpace) My marriage to Dylan's dad lasted 6 years (longer than my first marriage!) but didn't hold up under the amount of stresses that having 7 children between us put on our marriage and we divorced in 2000. I found a cute little house in Kent valley and when the salon in Renton closed, I opened for business at Ladybug Cottage (my home). It's been a real blessing and a lifesaver to be able to work out of my home and be more available for my son and his needs. It's really wonderful to not have to commute, to have a home business and it's tax benefits, as well as saving time and stress. I decided to go back to school in 2000 and went to HCC off and on for 6 years and got my AA!!! Yeah!! Now about that Bachelor's degree....not there yet. I wanted to go to Bastyr for Acupunture and Oriental Medicine (BSAOM) and (MSAOM) but it is a full-time 3 and a half year program for both degrees and they are in Kenmore, don't have online classes and I don't see how I can do that and work and care for my son. So, I'm still taking a break and thinking about it in my spare time! Traveling to Costa Rica twice to visit my older brother, to Jamaica three times - twice on a cruise, once for a honeymoon, and various places in the US to visit friends have all been highlights, too. I go whenever I can. I look forward to reconnecting to some of you cuz' I'll be ready to kick up my heels by the next reunion!! Take care.
