Deb's Story

Life Nobody seems to post their bios. Hmmm. Those Q&A things leave pretty big gaps to the imagination. Oh well, I'm bored, home recovering from my second major surgery to remove a tumor (benign but a real pain) in my spinal cord in my neck, and willing to spend a few minutes doing anything a little bit different. I live in Upstate New York but wish I could take everybody/everything I love here and move it to Minnesota to be near family and friends there. Although, the mosquitos here are smaller. There is more snow here-- living near Lake Ontario is an adventure in the winter. Lake effect snow is pretty amazing. I live with husband and five cats. Work very very hard for meager salary at a job that is rewarding and worth every minute and I hope you are doing the same. Things I enjoy: goofy games online like pogo; my friend Marv's podcast which is excellent marvk dot com check it out; on television, CSI-- only the Las Vegas version, for some reason I can't stop watching reruns; most of the series on HBO (Sopranos, SFU (dead and gone), and Deadwood is the best show ever made (Please don't let the cussing scare you away, the writing is nothing short of amazing)) and Huff on Showtime when you feel like watching some mid-life crisis angst with some interesting twists. And The Amazing Race is the only reality tv I watch. I also enjoy Haagen Dazs Caramel Cone ice cream. Ben & Jerry's Wavy Gravy was the best too but it went to the graveyard. Wegman's is the best supermarket. I love windmills and other renewable energy sources. I really hate that we are using fossil fuels when we really don't need to and people are dying in many ways because of money and politics and a corrupt government agenda. Ooops I'm supposed to be in my what I like paragraph. I like cats and dogs, I'm a both person, don't have dogs due to long work hours away from home. I like having a garden but didn't this year due to surgery. I love the smell of tomato plants and the look of freshly tilled and weeded garden rows and dirt between my toes and hauling ten pounds of zucchini and tomatoes to work every day because I have too much. I love cool weather in the summer and warm weather in the winter. I love getting emails about how to enlarge certain parts of my body, even parts I don't have. I read them all. I love Dunkin Donuts iced mocha swirl latte, skim milk, no sugar, no whipped cream. 180 calories and 20% of your daily calcium requirement. I like Finger Lakes reislings, especially Bully Hill, but reislings in general are my favorite wines. I hate mosquitoes, and the Mosquito Magnet doesn't work worth anything, don't waste your money. I hate bananas. I don't like hornets and I wish they would leave my house and deck alone without me yelling at them and spraying awful insecticide at t...Expand for more
heir amazing little houses. I'm starting to really dislike blogging and other ways people interact on the internet, like Second Life. I know a few blogs that are excellent, but mostly people need to get out and connect with real people in the real world, not hide from them. I'm not a grammar snob but I hate when people don't use to and too properly. I also hate when people don't use nauseous and nauseated properly, although sometimes their mistake makes them look foolish and they don't even know it, and then it's kind of humorous, but you can't laugh, unless you want to explain it and look like a grammar snob. Speaking of nauseated, I went on a Carnival Cruise once and it was a horrible experience. What is their slogan? At any given moment there are a million ways to have fun on a Carnival ship? Yeah, right. More like, can we think of a million ways to extort even more money out of the passengers while we hold them captive at sea? I have 191 characters left to soapbox. Slow down; try to think about why somebody else is acting annoying/crazy and don't get stressed about it. There. I'm done. Take care of yourself. Update 2008: Working full time, neck is a pain but so is life, just gotta keep on going. We never have complete control of the things that happen to us; I see so many people stressed because they are seeking ultimate control. Let go a little. Enjoy the day. Smell the lilacs, then sneeze like crazy. That's what they make Zyrtec for. Update 2009: Working full time. I wonder if someday I will get tired of my job-- physician assistant in an oncology/hematology clinic. Sometimes people do well, sometimes they die. Sometimes I keep things at arms length and sometimes I soak up the sad like a sponge. Still, I can't imagine doing anything different. The rest of life is the same... same house, same hubby, five cats (possibly a different assortment, I'm starting to be blurry about when which cats died, but I love each of them to pieces.) I spend time at Patz on the River in Oswego, sitting at the bar, looking out at the river and marina and good times with friends there. I goaled 500 miles on my bike this summer but that ain't gonna happen. My friend Michelle in Minnesota is undergoing chemo for breast cancer and if I've ever wished/prayed hard for anything it is for her to be okay-- and for Kev, M and K of her family. It was a summer of music. Concerts/bands we saw or groupied: Enter the Haggis, Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp, Bob Dylan (who freaking sucked), Dave Matthews (new album is awesome, shake me like a monkey baby), Enter the Haggis again, Glengarry Bhoys, Searson, Rathkeltair, Barleyjuice. That's my update! Take care all. Facebook me! "I tasted--careless--then--I did not know the wine came once a world--Did you?" Emily Dickinson
