Debbie's Story

Life Frank Bell and I were married 8 years. During year 5 we had our son Brian. Brian is 19 now and has autism so he still lives at home with me. Brian and I have lived in Europe, Tennessee, Kentucky, and now California. I remarried when Brian was 7 to my husband Kevin McCaw. Kevin is originally from Chicago and we retired in San Diego. Kevin and I love to take long harley rides on the weekends. We bought a home in Santee, CA were the 3 of us live with our 3 poodles & 2 cats. I often miss the snow and winters from Illinois. During the week I am a controller for an pump motor shop. On the weekends and evenings I am a full time student working towards my Masters in Finance/Accounting. And that is about enough about me for now. Military I spent 8 LONG years as an Army Spouse. I finished up my military career as a Navy wife. Overall I have 17 years in Activey dut...Expand for more
y military spouse service. And if you don't think that was a job...try being a single parent away from family & friends for most of the time! Now we are retired. Retirement Even with retirement we both work fulltime. Life in California is expensive. The cost of raising a special needs person is also expensive. We hope that one day our son may live on his own. Special Needs Brian has Asperger's Syndrome which is a mild form of Autism. He had a very difficult childhood. He was always the top student in his class. Yet emotionally and socially he can not cope with everyday problems. We work with him one day at a time. After 3 years he learned to drive. So we are hopeful that we will be able to master the skills to work and live on his own one day. He is my joy, and does take a lot of energy. I guess that is why I was only give the blessing of one special child.
