Debbie's Story

Life What can I say? Getting divorced after almost 20 years (as of 9/27). Three kids: Shane, 17; LaDwana 13; and Dylan 12. One dog...my pit puppy Jinx. My cat died and my other two dogs were taken with hurricane Isabel a couple of years ago-so much for shelters (oops...didn't mean for this to turn into a country song!). I'm becoming a health nut, not a freak, just a nut (natural health, eat organic and LOVE Pilates and Yoga!). I'm still working on building my retirement house in the tropics and I just want to be healthy enough to enjoy it when I finally get there. We're still a family of surfers, skateboarders, & artists. With hurricane Katrina, i wanted to get on here and find all my high school friends from Mississippi; and see if I could make contact and offer any help. I'd rather help directly, but I can go through Red Cross too. Soooo...John Tucei, Christie Bell, Kristine Haas, Jackie Shamblin, Jacob Dupree, David Leggett and everyone else that I hung out with....ya'll call me!!! Anyone else who knows where these people are, call me too (or email)! School Ok..two high schools: Hancock North Central: John Tucei was my first love, of course. Christie Bell was my best friend. I snuck (is that really a word?)out of the house sooo much. My parents were so strict. But I had tons of fun! Mississippi and Hanckock County, Waveland, Bay Saint Louis and Pass Christian is where my fondest memories are. I vacation in New Orleans every year (well, looks like it's going to be a while before that happens again); and last year I drove through Diamondhead and took pictures of my old houses (and John's and Christie's too) as well as the pools we used to hang out at. Anyway, back to school. McNatt was a fantastic teacher and gave me insight into history I would have thought boring with a different teacher. Eric used to freak me out with the cricket sounds all the time in that class. My funniest (of course not at the time) was when I skipped school for the first time and went to the beach with some friends I met in Waveland. That night I found out my parents had brought a car up to the school to give to me and surprise me with, and I wasn't even there. The next day at school, to make matters worse, I found out that John had brought me a dozen roses and was so pissed that I wasn't there that he gave them away to Becky Farve. I was devastated in so many ways! It's funny now though. My happiest moments were always with John. Most of my funniest were with Christie. But for the most part, the entire two years I was there were the best of my youth. At Churchland High School: My freshman year I had a crush on Jerry Butler...what a dweeb. Sorry Jerry if...Expand for more
you read this, but you have to admit, you were such a major dweeb! I thought you broke my heart...it turned out to be a crush on an older guy with a motorcycle! My senior year I was still wrapped up in John Tucei in Mississippi. He broke my heart in January and I met my husband on the rebound. My best friends were Lisa Gray, Lisa Statin, and Kathee Duckwall. My happiest moment was when I broke Laney's nose in the powderpuff game because she kept illegally elbowing me in the friggin chin. I warned her not to do it again, but she did it anyway. I guess she thought because I was only 5'1" and she outweighed me by about 15 lbs that I'd let her get away with it. Nope, not gonna happen. But, in my defense, I DID warn her. My favorite teacher was Mr. Oliver in Literature who really brought Shakespeare alive for me. Not to mention he caught me sneaking back INTO school in the stairwell one day and told me I was going to ruin my life and that I was one of the smartest kids he knew but I was wasting it. Mr Oliver, thank you! You may have said that to all the kids, but you made a difference in me! Would I do it over? Of course. And do it exactly the same because to change the past is to change the future and I like where I've been and where I'm going. Workplace Hmmm. I've always had a wandering spirit. My first Job was waitressing (at 14 yrs. old) at Robert's Steak House in Bay St. Louis. God! The tips were great! I was fired from KMart in Bay St. Louis for wearing jeans because I went straight from school to work. In Virginia, I worked at Hardee's and Dunkin Donut's the summer and fall of my senior year. In January of '86 I worked for Riddle Honda where I met my husband (of 19 years now! wow!). After that I got a degree in Business Management but quickly found out that I don't like working with women in an office all day...too caty. Ran a few small construction companies for a while, but decided life indoors and being stuck behind a desk wasn't for me. Sooo, I became a real estate agent. It was great for a while, then my restless soul got bored yet again. The market in our area skyrocketed and agents became animals...not for me. My mother had a bad stroke and I went to be with her. It was a great opportunity to evaluate my life. Now I'm a loan officer...so-who needs to refinance? cash out some equity? go on vacation? live a little? pay off some debts so you can breath a little easier? - just let me know. Other than that, I've worked my ass off being the best wife I can be and the most incredible mother I can be 24/7 to the world's greatest kids. That in itself, is a thankless job but I don't do it for the thanks. It's all for the love baby!
