Debbie's Story

Life I left MHS in 72 moved to WV to finish my Sr Year graduated from Elkins HS in 1973. I have two daughters Crystal who is 34 yrs old and Lauren is 25. I have been retired from the school systems since June of 2012 and I am loving retirement. We live in rural Virginia (called Milford, Virginia) (no Kidding)on 265 acres of farm with lots and lots of land, with a nice 11 acre pond for fishing. I have 9 4 legged children, 2 yorkie poos, a gentle giant female rescue pit, and a great big choclate lab. The chocolate lab ended up giving birth to 14 puppies we ended up keeping five of them. They are so innocent and loving. We live out in the Boone Docks of Virginia, I am trying to get use to Severe Country Living.. But! I just hate having to drive 20-40 miles to a grocery store or a mall. Then again, as far out as we are in the country, my kids can roam without fear of thugs mugging them, I can let my dogs outside without even a thought of them getting run over by a car, or someone picking them up. Pro's and Con's of Country living?????.. I guess it depends on just how isolated one wants to be from the every day hustle and bustle of city life. No more debating about living in the country, last night I looked down the drive way as the Farmer's were harvesting the corn crop in the front fields, I was watering my flowers, the dogs where playing back and forth in the driveway and the sun was setting. I thought !! Can it get any better than this??? What a life!!!!! Then I am reminded of the long drive to work daily and the raising gas prices... Ekkkkkk.. I can sit on my front porch in my swing, and watch the sun setting in the evenings, with deer, turkey's and tons of wild life right in front of me, actually in the front fields of my house. There is about 20 some acres on each side of the driveway depending on the season filled with soybeans or corn plants growing and the wonderful wildlife just grazing at their own free will, it is amazing. So how bad can country life really be??? LOL Life is good, what more can I ask for?...Expand for more
? School I went to Milford, Ct High School until my Junior Yr which ended in 1972. My Parent's then sent me to West Virginia to complete my Senior Year at Elkins High School. I hated leaving Milford and my friends but I looked forward to venturing into new territory and making new friends but doing this in my Senior Year was not a good idea in my book. If my parent's wanted to send me to a different school they should have done this earlier in my high school years. I made new friends at Elkins H.S. and even met my first husband their, I learned early on that West Virginia was God's country and the people there were good, honest and wholesome. I can not wait to retire because that is where I want to be in my old age in the mountains with wonderful, god fearing, god loving people. West VA is like no other place on earth, my favorite year is Autumn and from late Sept till early November the views in the WVA mountains are like nothing that I have ever experienced in my life time. My oldest daughter Crystal attended Davis and Elkins College in Elkins and I so loved going to Parent's weekends in the autumn and winter months. If I could have I would have stayed in Elkins, brought up my children there and lived there forever. Mom & Dad were right back then, this is where one would want their children to be born and grow up in. Gods Country. I am so glad to have experienced school and friends in West Virginia in the 70's. But I loved my experience in Milford, CT as well. I have experienced the shoreline of Milford and the wonderful seaside town and also the mountains of West Virgina all in my 4 years of high school. Who could ask for a better life. Workplace Lets see, after High School I married, ekkkk... over now.. enter Xray technology school for two years in WV. then moved to VA decided to take some time off, with my youngest daughter Crystal, went back to work as a Personnel Director, for several years in the retail market, then went to Government work and I have worked for the Government ever since either local or state.
