Debbie's Story

I remember first coming to Male High School, it was overwhelming. I met friends quickly. I remember having the basketball coach as my history teacher, he was my 4th period class in the little trailers on the side of the school. Once basketball season started there wasn't much to do, he was always gone. I ate lunch with the seniors. 2 Guys would pick on me at lunchtime. Stealing my milk,or taking my tray. More of a tease i think then evil. I was quiet and timid. After several days of that, I met more seniors that had me set with them. They stopped the teasing and I was able to enjoy that yucky lunch. Everyone was so friendly and the guys I ended up sitting with were really sweet. Can't remember their names, I know they would want to cut lunch and go to white castle. I never went. The good girl in me I guess. They were great friends. One drove an older looking car, kind of a pastel color I think. (pink) maybe. They would offer me rides home, but once again the good girl in me i didn't take their offer. I remember a guy sitting out front of school waiting to pick me up in a company van. ked with my Dad. The guy wasn't there because my Dad asked him to pick me up as much as he was wanting to get a feel. When I seen the van I walked back into school. And those great guys asked me what was wrong. I explained and they said they would take me home, but i couldn't do that. I told them I was going to go out the back of the school and walked that way. These guys were so good to me, they followed me all the way home, just to make sure i was safe. I lived on Jefferson Street east of the school and they all lived in Portland. They went out of their way to see i got home safe. I will never forget them for that. OK I forget the names. But what they did for me was an act of kindness that you don't see much of these days in young kids. Who knows what they saved me from, by seeing me home when they didn't have to. If you all are reading this i know you will remember. I just want to say Thank you. That day ended any more vans in front of the school. I told my Dad that evening about his driver and some other things. He never had a chance to pick me up again. You all were my angel that day..
