Debbie's Story

The years since 1974 have been busy! I am the mom to five kids ages 26-18. I am stepmom to three more. And foster mom to another. And then there's the Danish exchange student we sadly said farewell to last summer--but he's coming "home" again next summer. We like kids. We also have three horses, six heifers, 13 chickens, a dog, and seven cats. I guess we like animals too. I am the Renaissance on Main Street Manager for the City of Fort Thomas, Kentucky. I love my job! I get to plan events and a festival, oversee a museum project, apply for grants, work with kids, and help with historic preservation and streetscapes. Our family is very active in Plum Creek Christian Church. Three of my kids are through with college, and the twins are seniors in high school. Since the twins are very active in athletics, we spend a lot of time in the bleachers of football and basketball games. We live in Northern Kentucky, just 20 minutes south of Cincinnati. We are in the country--Camp Springs-- which is a largely agricultural community of 1850 stone houses, wineries, artists, and beautiful countryside. We are working on the horse and bicycle trail through the 28 stone houses on the National Historic Register. It's called the Stonehouse Trail and should be opened to the public in the next few months. Life is good and I'm really enjoying this stage of life. I'd love to hear from old friends. Update: As of July 13 we have temporary custody of a 7-month old little girl. She's adorable! Update: As of the next week, we began on-again/off-again extended visit from our granddaughter. She's 4-months old. Yes, I just might be too old for this--judging from the swollen knee and hurting shoulder! Getting up and down to change diapers ain't what it used to be! And neither is carrying a carseat full of baby! It's now September and we still have our precious baby girl, Jai-lee. What a blessing to be part of her life. We don't know how long, but for now we're loving her like our own! Today is Thanksgiving, 2008 and I am so thankful for all the friends who are connected to my heart. God has blessed us with an awfully big family. I'm so thankful ...Expand for more
that my parents have made it for another Thanksgiving--even with the leukemia both are stuck with. This will be our first year we can't be with them since they're in the nursing home, but they're much better than a few weeks ago. Jai-lee is still with us. Delilah visits now and is happy at home with her Mommy and Daddy. God is good. And 2009 has begun. Taylor finished football with a ton of awards and a scholarship. Olivia is in the midst of her final high school basketball season and trying out for the college team. Jai-lee had her first birthday with us and continues to thrive. Emily will finish her Master's from Xavier in May. Nathan begins culinary school in February. Evan just moved into a nice house with a few buddies in Grayson and will return this way in May. He completed his EMT training and passed. Now onto the State exam. John had another birthday and continues to work endlessly at his job and around the farm. He expects six new baby calves very soon. I will get to play midwife again! I hope the New Year is wonderful for all of you! Debbie May, 2009 Ohmygoodness!!! We have another baby in our home. Jai-lee's little brother joined us until at least July. I never realized the number of kids in my house would be determined by someone else's birthing patterns! We're getting ready for the twins' graduation from high school. Emily received her Master's last weekend. Four of the heifers gave birth--and I only got to see one! It's still such an incredible way to witness God's miracles. Are we having a reunion this year? September, 2009 So I am an empty nester with two babies. Yes, I am befuddled. But gosh! they're cute. Jai-lee is now 20 months old; Izaha is nearly 7 months. Both twins are now in college and loving life. Olivia is playing soccer so we have made it to two of her games so far. Taylor is playing the guitar--no more sports for my big, tall boy. Mom died in March; Daddy in July. Our lives will never be the same. I was incredibly blessed for many more years than some--but I could have kept my parents with me as long as I'm here on earth. I don't like being the oldest generation of my family!
