Debbie's Story

I went to Kindergarten and 1st grade in Reidsville, Georgia. I started second grade in Bacon Primary School when my family moved to Hinesville, Georgia when I was 7. I missed Reidsville initially because of the pastures and farm land and I also loved watching the Cows. For some reason it was tranquil just watching them lying around. Although, being a child, I didn't know their fate at the time, which was a good thing. I then went to a school that at the time seemed to be just for 4th graders and I cannot remember the name as I attended for one year I believe. I remember yet another school in Hinesville during 5th grade. I think they were doing construction on the schools at that time. I then attended Hinesville, Middle school in I think 6th grade where I attended until I completed 8th grade. I was in the JAIL HOUSE a lot. What was that? It was an old restroom that was turned into what the school called a jail. The stalls were replaced with desks. If you did anything wrong you would get detention and be called to jail. I remember being in there many times. I loved it because I could get work done and not be interrupted. This was a very nice school however, and I learned a lot. The teachers were great (only one that did not understand me and she was the one that threw me in jail all the time.) but I have great memories of track, and my first dance there. ...Expand for more
The school officials took the time to make studying enjoyable. Bradwell was my next and favorite school. My brother Bobby was in 11th grade, brother Tracy in 10th grade, and I was in 9th but I don't remember bumping into them even once. I must have been absent on picture day, but I am in the BEGINNERS CHORUS picture in the yearbook and easy to spot since I was the shortest in the school (at 4'11"). Heehee. Shortly after leaving Bradwell my mother moved our family to Honolulu, Hawaii where I attended McKinley High School. I have also lived in San Mateo, California from 1984-1985. Chiba-ken, Japan from 1990-1992. Hawaii from 92' to 98'. I went back to Georgia from 1998-2010 and then returned to Honolulu in 2010 to present. Sure miss the good ol' days though and all the wonderful people I grew up with. The people I remember the most from Bradwelll: Vanetta Williams and Conny Walton (Really sweet friends that I wish I had kept in touch with), Connie Futch (when I hear anything Grease, I think of Connie), Matt Grant (CUT UP of the class, always wanted to tell him THANKS for the laughter), Frederick Proctor, Victor Morales (I went to a birthday party at his home when I was about 13 years old), David Murphy, Doug Wells, and I am sure I forgetting someone!! Hinesville Middle: Alicia Cannon...always looking for her. Her family ran the Midway Museum. -Debbie
