Debbie's Story
A Good Life...
I've had the great fortune of living all over the world. I was born in Japan, began 1st grade in France learning to speak the language and going to French school. I graduated from high school in Greece. Grew up an "army brat" as my dad was in the Army for 32 years. He was a diplomat in Greece during the 1967 coup d'etat. Very intersting experience, living under an oppresive regime, to say the least. People imprisoned simply for how they believed politically. How blessed we are to live where we do.
Went into nursing and spent part of my nursing career at the VA hospital in Columbia, Missouri where I took care of Vietnam vets coming back from the war. God bless them!!
I've been married to Bruce for almost 40 years. We were stationed at the Air Force Academy where Bruce was a glider instructor. Crashed his glider in 1984 while competing for the Academy. We went back to that cotton field in Welch, Texas, where he crashed, on a trip to visit dear friends in (2007). Miraculous that he survived! He spent a year learning to walk again and continues his love of flying. He has been flying gliders for over 40 years and is also a regular pilot.

e a blessed grandmother to twin girls January 2002. Caitlyn and Gillian are presently 11 yrs. old. Their baby sister, Emma, is 8. They are my heart and soul. My daughter, Kati, (32 yrs.) graduated from Colorado University in Boulder, Co. She married Steve September (2004)--they are now divorced...very difficult time. Felt like a death. She has since married Bill and doing well.
Kati and I toured thru Europe the summer of 2000 on the eurail. I took her back to Greece and France. We ended our trip in Ireland where she spent her junior year/spring semester of college. What a tremendous experience to do this with my wonderful daughter.
I work with abused children. I'm a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) and a volunteer of 15 years...the voice for the abused child in the court system. It's been a truly rewarding experience for me. I have learned much about strength and what unconditional love is. These kids love unconditionally...those who hurt them. They are remarkable little human beings.
We come full circle as we watch our grandchildren grow so beautifully and wonderfully with each passing day. It doesn't get any better than this with the good and the bad. Those rough times only make us stronger and better...it makes us who we become.
