Debbi's Story
I am currently taking a break from the Public School Scene, helping adults with mental disabilities in a group home setting. I am looking to finish my Special Education degree so I can work with Reading Disabled children back in a classroom setting.
My daughter is now 17 and an Honor Student in her last year of High School. She has made straight A's on her first two report cards this year! (I guess you can tell this is one proud mom!!!)
I am living in southern North Carolina, right above the South Carolina line (real close to Central for all my old Central-oops!, I mean Southern Wesleyan University friends!) I have lived in this area for the last nine, almost ten years.
Life for me revolves around my daughter, my job and my church, in which I am an active member.
I always wanted to be a teacher when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a great idea. As it turns out, they were right and wrong! I have spent eight, nearly nine years in the regular classroom setting. I don't think that was the best situation for me, and hence I am looking to finish up the Special Education degree that I put aside for time constraints on my college career.
The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Debbie Miller, my downstairs neighbor in New Smyrna Beach ten to twelve years ago. I lost track of her after she moved from her Holly Hill, Florida address.

ake care of our needs. After that, I'd give a good amount of it to my church and time-tested charities.
My current age is 45. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be "over the hill" and on their way to the retirement community! I was so completely WRONG!
My first job was at a horsemanship camp in North Georgia, where I got paid $150 a week, plus room and board to watch rich girls from Miami muck stalls in designer jeans! What I remember most about it is getting stuck with all the"greenhorn" jobs!
Well, leaving that part of my story on there, eleven years later, the last four of which I worked in a classroom setting in a Charter School! (Guess I thought that would make a difference!) You'd think I would have learned. I am again looking for the right fit for me and am now armed with a Master's in Education, an Endorsement in Learning Disabilities and a Permanent Florida Teaching Certificate, and am preparing to take the test for a Reading Endorsement! Job search is well under way, and I am tutoring to add a little income during the summer.
My daughter finished High School with honors, took some college classes, then went to work for Ryder truck company as an Office Manager, where she got rave reviews for her customer service! She has since moved on and is now studying to go into Real Estate. January of 2018 she got married to a wonderful man, and as of a month ago they are expecting their first child together, due the day after my birthday in January!
