Deborah Phillips-Pittman:  

Life After graduating from G-P in 1985, I attended Southwest Texas State U. in San Marcos (Now Texas State U.). I graduated Cum Laude in December 1989 with a BA in Journalism/Advertising. (And a minor in Business Administration.) I moved to Houston where I worked for 6 years at the Houston Chronicle as an Advertising Account Executive. The last 11 years I have worked in Textbook Publishing Sales--I worked for Macmillan Computer Publishing, and now work for Thomson Learning/Cengage Learning. I was married in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 4, 1996 to Jeff Pittman--an Aggie from College Station. (A&M Consolidated 1983, Texas A&M 1988) In 1999 we moved from Bellaire, Texas to Brenham, Texas--home of Blue Bell Ice Cream and an hour NW of Houston. We are in the process of remodeling our 1915 home, and it seems like the work is never done! No children yet, but we have several cats. I enjoy reading, music, traveling and shopping for antiques! In 2006, Jeff and I celebrated our 10th anniversary with a cruise to the Bahamas, Grand Cayman, Jamaica and Cozumel. (We've been together since 1992, so it feels more like 15 years!) In 2007, we took a trip to Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons with my family in honor of my parents 50th anniversary. We also just returned from a trip to Costa Rica where we attended the wedding of Jeff's stepbrother--its a beautiful country! We both enjoy traveling, so we try to take several trips a year. Someday we hope to visit Jacki Lackey Dillon in Australia! I am currently active with the alumnae chapter of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. I volunteer for the local chapter based at Texas A&M University-College Station. I serve on their House Corporation Board as Vice President, and author their bi-annual newsletter. My husband Jeff is also in a business partnership for a restaurant/bar--Second Fiddle Bar & Grill in Chappell Hill, Texas. (His full-time job is in Houston with CB Richard Ellis as a Real Estate Broker.) We also enjoy music, so we attend lots of concerts. (We like most kinds of music, and are often the oldest folks at some concerts, haha.) Some of the latest shows we've seen--Morrissey (ex-lead singer of the Smiths), the Strokes, Interpol, Snow Patrol, Death Cab for Cutie, Franz Ferdinand, the Shins, Pete Yorn, Sigur Ros, Wilco, the Police, Longwave, REM, the Cure, Steve Earle, Lyle Lovett, Robert Earl Keen, Charlie Robinson, Dixie Chicks, John Mayer, and the annual Austin City Limits Festival. College I attended Southwest Texas State U. in San Marcos (now Texas State U.) after graduating from Gregory-Portland High School in 1985. I was a member of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority where I served as President, Treasurer, and Scholarship Chairman. I was also a Little Sister to Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity which was founded at SWT by a G-P grad, Michael Wilson. (We also had quite a few members from G-P too.) I worked for two years at The University Star (the school newspaper) in their Advertising Department--I was a Sales Rep, Classified Manager and Sales Manager. (I also wrote an article for the paper that was published, so I guess that makes me a published author, haha...) I was active in the Ad Club/American Advertising Federation and inducted into the Advertising Honor Society, Alpha Delta Sigma. I was a Freshman Orientation Assistant, a volunteer Campus Guide for prospective students and their parents, and a Sorority Rush Counselor (Rho Chi). I was a member of Student Foundation (a campus ambassador organization) and served as their Selection Chair. Honors included: SWT Sorority Pledge of the Year 1986, SWT Sorority Woman of the Year Nominee 1989, Order of Omega Greek Honor Society, SWT Senior Woman of the Year Finalist 1990, SWT Gallardian (campus favorites) Finalist 1989, Society of Distinguished Collegiate Americans, and Outstanding College Students of America.
