Debora's Story

Life Hi all, Here is a little bit more about me and where I have been and done since we last saw each other. Career I went straight in the U.S. Navy after graduation. I toured all over East Asia during the Persian Gulf war. I spent 8 years traveling with the Navy. After that I perused my current career. After obtaining a business degree, I became a buyer. I have worked for Ford Motor Company, Johnson Controls, Medaldyne and General Motors Company in their Military Truck Division and now I with for Daimler Chrysler on special vehicles. Family Life I am marred to a wonderful man and have two children ages 4 and 9. Our favorite past time is fishing. That's right I bate my own hook with a worm and everything. I also have a tackle box made for the pros. I truly love to be out in the middle of no-where enjoying the quiet serenity of calm water and beautiful scenery. Future Goals To increase my Faith in God. To be the best wife and mother I can be. To be more successful in my career. Well there you have it...a little bit more about me. I would be happy to hear from anyone who knew me in grade school, middle school or high school. Take Care and God Bless you! De'Bora I. McCrary Military Boot Camp took place in November 1990 through February 1991 in Orlando, FL. It was definitely a mind game to say the least. I got through it by playing the game and staying out of trouble. I excepted the position of "Master at Arms" for the 50 State Flag Team. This enabled me to get out of a lot of duties within my command. As well as gave me an opportunity to travel off the base. After graduation I went on to Radio Man "A" and RIXT School in San Diego, CA which I was the only woman in my class and they made me "Class Petty Officer" in charge of all of them. Boy was this a tough position. In the end they were all great men to work with. This taught me leadership to which I carry with me still this day. We did a lot of partying in Tiawana, Mexico. As well as the on base club sold you to drink coolers and beer if you were eighteen. I remember having to get over my shyness and singing the national anthem as the American Flag was lifted on man...Expand for more
y mornings for all the classes to hear. After I was what the Navy called educated to fulfil my duties. I was transported to Yokosuka, Japan which is about 30 minutes away by train from Tokyo, Japan. I spent two years there learning the different culture and meeting many great friends and acquaintances. I worked the hours of 2 - 2 - 2- 80. (2 days shifts to to midnight shifts to two evening shifts all 8 hours apart. I learned what the term "Drunken Sailor" was really fast...because I was one on many occasions. I went TAD on a communication ship for 2 months on the USS Blue Ridge and was able to go to Australia and Guam. On a sad note, life as I knew it was turning upside down back at home. My parents were divorced and moved in separate houses and my dog, "Sheba", that I had my whole life was put to sleep. I became home sick and wanted to be there for my brothers. So after my tour expired I wanted to come back to the states. After a two week vacation at home and lots of hugs and kisses to and from my family. I was ready to get back in there. I chose to be on a Destroyer Tender called the USS Cape Cod AD-43 stationed out of San Diego, Ca. This was a lot different than the shore duty life I was used to in Japan. I worked 12 hours on and 12 hours off underway. In port I worked daily with a every other day all night duty watch. I was the DC Maintence Petty Officer and was on the Ship Fire Team. I did not have a lot of space and my bedroom was shared with 30 other females in what I like to refer as large size ice cube trays. I had many great friends who kept me very busy on my personal life. I would pick one day out the week just to do something with myself to keep my sanity. I used to go to the movies or go to watch the Ocean for inter peace. I quickly realized that I did not like the ship duty life and after my tour was over. I got out of active duty November 2004. I went back home and got my own apartment. It was heaven after my old living arrangements. I was so happy to be home. I joined the Navy Reserves out of Selfridge, MI and after having my son I found it was very difficult keeping my commitment to the Navy. So I go out and went to school.
