Deborah's Story
I am single and I have a daughter Arielle Corinne. She is a beautiful, blonde haired, blue eyed "A" student who loves horsebackriding, sports, music, playing the flute and Charles. She graduated early from High School and is enrolled in community college majoring in Elementary Education. I got to see my first beautiful nipote, Tristen come into the world on April 16, 2009, I AM NONNA! My second wonderful nipote, Jordan joined us on November 3, 2011. We moved to Sedona, Arizona in 1996, because we love hiking, camping, rafting and fishing. I wanted to raise my daughter in a small town.
In my varied working life . . . I have owned a commercial cleaning service and a computer typesetting & graphics company. I have been a non-profit consultant, grant writer, web designer and the founding president of a non profit animal welfare organization, which was supported by a 2000 sq ft secondhand shop. I am proud to say that we spayed and neutered more than 5000 pets for little or no cost in the 8 years we existed.
I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Northern Arizona University, with a degree in Elementary Education. I have my graduate degree in Administration and I still do not know what I want to do when I grow up. I have taught 3rd grade one year, 1st another and then went back to the business world as the District Manager of 4 states for a national merchandising company. I sell on ebay and have my art in a few local galleries. I returned to teaching for a while and enjoyed 5th grade this time. What I think I really want to do is teach art!
Obviously, I am still an artist and work in many mediums. I throw on the wheel and...Expand for more
do raku, recently I started working in fused glass. In my studio/workshop I like to build mid century modern furniture and I learned to weld in college. I also grow rare award winning cactus, xeriscape on half of my land and I have created a backyard permaculture, in addition to my organic vegetable garden and grey water orchard. Now I want BEES, have a plan to build a top bar hive, which provides a home for the fabulous polinators and a little of the sweet stuff for us! After that . . . the worm bin is next for vericompost and a root cellar.
Oh and chickens . . . I LOVE my chickens, they lay pink, dark chocolate brown, green, blue, white and copper eggs! They weed, perform pest control and fertilize my soil. You really can't beat hanging out with the "girls" for "hentertainment" either! Although I am mostly vegetarian, my rural friends out here got me hooked on fresh eggs, like tomatoes, there is nothing like "growing" them yourself!
I have a lot of companion animals and am deeply concerned about the environment. I recycle, compost, have solar panels, solar water heating and a water cachement system. I reduce my carbon footprint by driving my Harley Davidson Sportster 883 whenever I can! I wasn't REALLY a hippie back in the 70's, but I sure am now! I still have a classic volkswagon beetle like I did in high school and a Nissan pickup which is the workhorse of my homestead.
Contact me! And please call me Debbie! I would love to hear from you! I moved to Sedona 96 at GEE mail dot com . . . total nerd, you can also find me on Facebook!
These days, I teach kids and college students to PERMACULTURE!
