Deborah's Story

Life I'm not writing my life bio because that would be insane however I can tell those of you that I've travelled. I'm most proud of the past 10 years of my life. I went back to Seneca College in 1996 to complete my diploma that I quit in 1992, they were so nice to remember me and to give me a second chance. I always aspired to be educated and I wasn't doing it working in the service industry. In the spring of 1997, after graduating college, I moved to Lake Louise, Alberta to work in the hospitality industry, I hated it! So I moved to Calgary, Alberta, where I finished my first degree at the University of Calgary. After completing this degree I moved to Edmonton, Alberta to attend the University of Alberta continuing through to graduate with my Bachelor of Education. I completed 6 years of education in 4 years, I'm very happy with this result as I never thought I could do this feat. In the fall of 2004 I moved to the Miramichi area in New Brunswick where I worked as a substitute teacher and as a youth care worker for children in care. Today (2007), I'm back living in the Calgary area, more specifically Bragg Creek. Back in the fall of 2005 my boyfriend and I purchased a house in this area. I'm a grade 3 teacher in Morley, Alberta. I teach on a reserve, teaching First Nation children. Specifically, the Stoney/Nakoda children. I love my students! Who woulda thunk it. If you all remember my mother, she was a grade 3 teacher too..how ironic! I'm lea...Expand for more
ding a pilot project in literacy and we are seeing huge results. Where I see myself in 5 years is running my own non-profit organization for children at risk, teaching them life fundamentals in the home and within our own school. I enjoy working with First Nation communities so I would love to build this within their communities. There you have it my 'life story.' I haven't changed much from highschool, I still enjoy practical jokes, sarcasm, and a good laugh. I hope you all are reaching your potential and doing what you all do best! School My school bio could be read in my 'life' bio. Anyways, I have 2 diplomas: one from Seneca College for Hospitality and the second from the Career College for Travel and Tourism. I worked both industries and found them not gratifying. I've obtained 2 degrees too. My first is a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of Calgary. I have a lot of credit courses in Native Studies and Archeology. My second degree is a Bachelor of Education with interest in Native Studies from the Univeristy of Alberta in Edmonton. I'm not finished either. In the winter of 2007 I enrolled in Graduate Studies at the University of Calgary for Special Education & Inclusive Education. I wish to obtain my Masters in Education and my Doctorate. I want to educate myself in Special Needs, particularly Fetal Alchol Spectrum Disorder. I'm half way there :-) There you have it..my school bio! I hope you enjoy it!
