Deborah's Story
I've led a very blessed life with many opportunities that could never have been foreseen. I have a beautiful 41 year old daughter who is married and lives/works in the San Francisco area as an accomplished singer and actress of the live stage.
As for my professional life, I attended Palomar JC while still a Junior and Senior at VHS, and then attended the University of San Diego with tons of accumulated credits. I've been a professional in the field of Human Resources and Nonprofit Management for over 40 years and have either started or assisted many start-ups in various cities throughout the United States. I also was blessed to have worked for a very respected Senior Congressman (now retired) who also served as the Chair of the Armed Services Committee. It was here that I began my Nonprofit career, working between his offices in San Diego and Washington D.C., for nearly five (5) years. Together, we touched the lives of an incredible number of returning Veterans who were either disabled or severely disabled, giving them an opportunity to work on government and private industry contracts that they otherwise would never have been exposed to. That prompted me to create Exceptional Solutions, which is an incubator and one-stop-shop for nonprofit start-ups and is assisting in the areas of foster children, families with special needs children, education, humanitarian efforts, animal...Expand for more
welfare, Veterans and various others. This has been extremely rewarding and fulfilling for me personally.
I enjoy entertaining, gourmet cooking, anything having to do with the outdoors, especially the beach, fine dining and fine wines, travel, great conversations, spectator sports of any kind, beach volleyball, tennis and walks, good books and soft music. I am also very involved in philanthropic activities in various cities around the globe.
Then, in 2008, I was blessed with the opportunity to marry my very best friend of nearly 40 years, We had a fairy tale friendship and marriage until his unexpected passing in 2010.
The news I shared not too long ago with some of you, was very saddening. Mr. Braun passed away on Saturday, April 3rd, 2010, at the age of 90. Many of you may remember him as our high school principal at VHS from 1968 through 1974. At that time, he left for Bangkok, Thailand. He lived an incredible life that most of us had no idea of and/or about but he had a profound affect on each of us. He spent over 30 years in the Navy and continued to work for the State Department, undercover, right up to and including the Gulf War. I'd love to hear from any of you who may remember him -please feel free to share any stories of how he may have affected your lives. As for me, he truly molded me into the person that I am today.
Take care and be good to yourselves.
