Deborah's Story
In college, I quickly decided that the library was my future. Got my bachelor's and master's Library Science) degrees right away from Wayne State. Got married in 1973, still love him 40+ years later. He is Pat O'Connor and is an exec in the computer biz.
Worked in different kinds of libraries, then got the chance to start the Canton Public Library in 1979. Had a ball doing everything it took to start the library from scratch.
My husband had a wonderful opportunity in Cleveland and I followed him there in 1985 to Geauga (gee aw guh) county, east of Cleveland, to work for the Geauga County Public Library. Our county is pretty rural, many areas have 5 acre minimum lots so we live on a relatively modest 2 acre lot. We have many Cleveland commuters all the way to farmers and the Amish in Geauga...Expand for more

I became Director of the library system here in 1990. We have a great library system with over 200 employees and lots of great services! I am looking forward to the next chapter in my life (library joke) when I retire in fall 2015.
We found Geauga the perfect place to raise a family, so after 14 years of marriage our first daughter was born in 1988 and our second in 1991. We became grandparents in 2012 and we are loving the experience!
We are all very involved in the community, our church, local, state and national politics, and professional associations. We love to travel and have also become fans of cruising.
We don't get back to Detroit area much, although my mother, sisters and husband's family still live there.
Life has been good, I am happy, and hope my classmates are happy too!
