deborah's Story

Anticipating the 50th (!) class reunion when we greet people we haven't seen in decades: “Hey! How ARE you?” I asked myself: How am I? Well, I'm not skinny, but I'm not fat, either. I’m not rich, but I have everything I need. I’m not completely grey (yet.)I don't need any medication. I’m happy to be married to my still sexy high school boyfriend Mark Smith (STHS ’66). Our son (G.A. ’05) and daughter-in-law live in Boston, don’t ask us for money, and seem to enjoy spending time with us. I’ve traveled a lot (Africa, Egypt, Israel, Central America, Barbados), hitch hiked across the US (twice) and worked as an apple picker in Washington, taught Special Education in Philadelphia, managed the Marketing Department in my father’s (now ...Expand for more
my brother’s) business for 20 years. I still see Ellen Jenoff - friends since Erdenheim Elementary School. I was able to visit often with Mike Seifert before he died, and am sorry I didn’t stay in touch with Miles Jellinek and Gregg Jackson, two other good friends, now gone as well….as are my parents. Mark and I live on a property we love in Upper Gwynedd, and have a summer cabin on the East Branch of the Delaware River in Hancock NY. We’re active in environmental issues and volunteer in the community. Now both retired and no longer caring for elders, we’re free to travel again - heading soon to Tasmania, New Zealand and Australia while we can still climb, dive and kayak. So I’ll answer, “I’m FINE, thanks. Really. Hope you are too.”
