Debra's Story
Life
After Leaving Columbia end of my Junior year I graduated in Champaign, Ill but always have thought of Hickman as my high school. I attended Univ. of Ill. then Kansas State Univ. where I recieved a BS in Textile Science and went on to recieve a MS in Enviromental Design/Textile design from Southern Illinois Univ. in Carbondale.
I married Dave Hillen who I met at Centenial HS(1975)in August of 1979. We have 3 children, J.D.(22,)Katie(20) and Jessica (14). We live in Kansas City area and Love it here. I am currently an Assistant Professor of Fashion Merchandising and Design at Johnson County Community College. I teach Pattern Drafting, Textiles, Tailoring ...Expand for more
and Apparel Construction. I also do consignment design work and sell hand dyed fabrics. Dave works for S.C. Johnson Wax as an Area Manager. Our Mothers still live in Champaign IL area so we come home several times a year, stopping thru Columbia sometimes. J.D. will be graduating from K-State as a third generation K-State grad in December and getting Married to his high school sweetheart,Kari, next June. Kate attends KU and is getting ready to transfer to specialize in Child Psycology dealing with children with Asbergers Syndrome. Jessica plays on the Jr high basketball and volleyball team as well as doing the winter and spring plays. We are a very busy bunch!
