Debra's Story

Debra's first home was in Dearborn before moving to Dearborn Heights just prior to attending first grade at Fred C. Fischer Elementary. Then came John Hill Junior High and graduation from Cherry Hill High in 1975. After that, she lived in Southfield, Westland and, since 1983, in Livonia. Debra graduated in 1991 from Detroit College of Business (now Davenport University) with a BS in Marketing. She worked at J. Walter Thompson (which merged into), Team Detroit and GTB advertising agencies for over 38 years, retiring in early 2020. Debra's first marriage in 1979 gave her three amazing children. She became a widow in 2015; however, later that year, she and fellow ‘75 alum Kirk Lane ‘met’ at their 40th class reunio...Expand for more
n. He became the love of her life, and they were married on 12/28/18. This added more children and, for me, grandchildren to love. Kirk and Debra spent a total of four incredible years together before sadly, and way too soon, Kirk passed away on 12/11/2019. He'd been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer only a month and a half before his death. Debra honors Kirk by traveling to places she knows he would have enjoyed. Several trips have been spent with family or with fellow CHHS 'besties' she's been in touch with for years or met at other reunions or casual get-togethers. She's also been a board member on two non-profit organizations over the years; the CHHS Alumni Association and her community's HOA.
