Debra's Story
Right out of high school, while at a party, I took a drink out of Karen Baker's cup of beer, real dumb, she had hepatitis C, yep I got it too, god, I was so sick, not a pretty yellow, as planned earlier, Sharon Benson and I traveled to North Carolina, to visit some army guy she met when he was out here, he lived in Charlotte, from an ad in the paper, riders wanted, we rode in ad dark green Kaiser, strange looking car, one windshield wiper, so fricking hot, severe thunder storms going through the midwest-whoa! We ended up in Boone, partied in Blowing Rock, legal drinking age was 18. We hitched hike all over, South Carolina, Georgia, stayed in Boone, NC. for a while, interesting stories I could tell. Her mother got hurt, she came back to Seattle, I went to Newark, NJ, staying with an uncle/aunt for 3 weeks. I went to New York City on my own to see the Statue of Liberty, and I had Human guardian angels there! I brought back a Corgi/Beagle mix puppy-"Missy" so cute! She lived for 16 years. I worked for Eddie Bauer's on Airport Rd. for a year, sewing, man! Lived with Tim Garton, we went to Disneyland, (no parents!) cruised through the old ghost towns in Nevada, lots of dirt bike adventures, camping and decided I wanted to go to Veterinary School, but just as I was going enter, Tim and got broad sided while on his motorcycle, that Triumph ruined, my left leg was crushed, bones shattered, pins and screws, skin grafts-wow-spiritually humbling! Finally, 6 mos later got to go to Vet school in downtown Seattle, also, working part-time at Skippers, Rainier Ave. Bought a beautiful '69 Malibu Chevelle-so cool. When I turned 21, Sharon, Dianne and Joanne we hit all the dancin places from Renton to Kent, especially the Ad Lib tavern. I went to the Rocky Horror picture show 6 times, my friend James Stanton dressed up as Frankenfurter. I loved dancin to the Time Warp-what a trip! I rented a house in the Rainier Valley area-1 bedroom. Worked for Bruce T. Williams,DVM in Renton on Rainier Ave 6-1/2years, met Bill Lemke Jr. a West Seattle guy, (after Cordel Becker canceled a date with me), 9 mos later, we got married, did the whole white wedding thing, getting real good at playing foos ball, Bill was in tournaments, our marriage lasted 2-1/2 years. I moved to another bigger house, 2 bedrooms in West Seattle, wonderful times there, including sun bathing, nude in my back yard with Lester and laughing at the 2 girls that peeked through the fence and they ran off screaming-hahaha!!! While enjoying single life, I met Ron Chilfone, 18yrs older, didn't look it. He was an antique/jewelry dealer-Kent on PacHwy, that lasted about 2 years. After being laid off from Renton Vet. was happily collecting unemployment for 11 mos, I got the opportunity to go to Hawaii for 1 week to visit with Sue Moniz, Bill's neice, she has family over there. Man that was fun, stayed at her grandfathers for couple of days, home cookin at her aunt's house, than we went to a hotel, to get away from the adults, went to a rodeo, which her cousin was in, and wrote our names with white rocks place on the lava. The worse sunburn I've ever experienced, ouch!! When I got back, started working for Michael Lemmon,DVM for 18-1/2 years, holistic medicine-alternative care, herbs, vitamins, acupuncture, chiropractic care and homeopathy, learned alot. I love it! After being single for 10 years, I met Mark Romans, he knew Dave Cowden, Sue married him. Mark and I married along the river in Fall City, got legal custody of his daughter, Tiffany, 8yrs old, instant mom! We lived in that house for awhile, my dad (52years) died Jan.'89 of a heart attack-wow, than we moved to Renton Highlands. Lots of camping, but after being with those two idiots out there, I began to dislike it, maybe with the right people or person I'd like it again. Also, stopped going to the hydro races because of his excess drinking, no fun. Tiffany had a baby at 14, baby adopted out, now, she has 5 children-2 girls, 3 boys, I love being a grandma. Bought a '84 Oldsmobile-Supreme. After 12 years...Expand for more
divorced that awful man! Vulnerable me, got conned by another man, thought I was going to make money together-Ha! Thousand of dollars later! I paid for that for years. Bought a '93 Corsica, Chevy. My friend Jane invited me to a commitment wedding (2 men) and than went up to the 75th floor of Columbia Tower, for the reception so FUN!! Watched the sun go down and the full moon rise, at the same time and the women's bathroom has windows in it. For 20 years, enjoyed going to The 5th Ave. Theater and The Burien Dance Theater watching my nephew-Daniel dance, he no longer does and now my 2 nieces, their so cute! Had to move out of Renton Highlands house, no where to go and I had 9 cats in my life at that time, so Dr. Micheal Lemmon let me live at the clinic (Highlands Veterinary) for over a year and half, got laid off because he went part time. Wow, starting over again! Bought an old motorhome, thinking I would travel up and down the West coast-oh no, ended up near Factoria, 6 years now. After 1 yr, out of the vet business, I worked part-time for Jackie O'Bando,DVM, on Mercer Island 3-1/2yrs, what a catty experience, to keep it nicely said. Never again will I work for a vet! Full time Pet and House Sitting for all kinds of cool people, very interesting life! Got my hair cut above my shoulders, wow, what nice change-I like it! At my brother's 25th anniversary May '06 married to Charlotte Jensen, one the songs on the tape was the Time Warp, yep, her family and I got out there and we danced to it, so fun! Got a '79 Volvo stationwagon free, felt like I was a girl from capital hill! Because of knowing Lee Peterson,(beats to a different drummer, just like I do.) His friend came to my rescue-damsel in distress! On April 17th 2008 my mother died, my friend and a good listener, she was in such pain the last 6 mos of her life, that it was a blessing, that she got the choice to unplug her own oxygen at 9 AM took some pain pills and gone at 7 pm. My heart aches and I miss her so much! I got ashes of her in a pewter teddy bear. Bought a '84 Volvo Stationwagon- ugly car-yuk, now I have a 1990 Camry Toyota stationwagon love it, except for the oil leak, soon to be fixed. In Sept, '08 went to 35th year class reunion Uncle Mo's and Rock Salt and had a blast, reconnecting with many friends from then-so cool!! Now knowin as Dancin Debbie. I got a laptop in the end of Dec. and started using it beginning of Feb. was afraid of it at first, but now I can't seem to stay off of it. Learning so much, and got alot to learn. By the way, of course, I've had all kinds of animals over the years, dogs, cats, fish (fresh and salt water) reptiles, a rabbit, but as I write this on April 10th 2009, I only have one 16 year old cat left, "Abber Gabbers". So there it is, I'm domestic violence survivor, and I still enjoy the company of men! Presently taking a short break, concentrating on my business. I'm a self employed Pet and House Sitter, learning about advertisement has been an expensive experience-i am learning the tricks of that trade and learning how to say-No! On May 27th, 2010 missed a step out of motorhome, fractured 2 bones, tore ligaments in my right ankle-OUCHY! Another humbling experience! Well, on Nov 24th-9pm at a clients house and one their pipes broke, I couldn't turn off valve, neighbor couldn't, fireman couldn't, so went to street to turn it off! They squigeed water out the back door, sucked up some of the water, I took towels and fine tuned it, the small area of my back hurt! The 2 dogs were freaking out the whole time, no cats got out ( 6 of them) I drank the whole bottle of wine from the bottle-aahhhh! What an adventure! On April 12th 2011, I had to have my Abber Gabbers put to sleep, she was 18 years, I got to bury her body on the property of a gal friends up in Monroe, I put a a plant called Arrowwood Viburnum, a pretty white flower bush that will get about 6 ft tall! She's my last little animal friend for awhile, I am so busy overnight pet sitting that I don't want to have another little animal be left alone.
