Debra's Story
Life
I went to Messiah College '73-'74. I quit after a year because I was "in love" with a guy I had met after graduating high school. I started working at PA Blue Shield. The romance lasted 2 years. The career at Shield lasted 29 years. I met my ex in '79 when his sister, a co-worker, played match maker. Gene and I married in 1980 and my sons were born in 1983. We were happily married and so on, and so on, till we divorced in 1998. We remained friends. He passed away in 2015. Now that I am over 60 I tend to look at things differently...I can still be shy, but try not to let it paralyze me (FYI: I was never a snob, I was just extremely shy in school). o fine sons (now 40 and one is in the military) and I am in good health (except for the usual symptoms of old age...bad knees, lapses in memory, etc.). I found Mike, one of my friends from high school, and we have been together for 20+ years. I would love to hear from any of my old classmates.
Workplace
I worked for the same company for 29 years. I worked my way up thru the company from a file clerk to a data analyst. As with many companies, experience, knowledge, nor years of service are a guarantee of continued employment. My department downsized, no comparable jobs were available, and I found myself unemployed. I worked at a third party administrator, then Novitas-solutions. That did not end up being a good match for me. Now I am working at a rehab hospital as an administrative assistant and love it.
